Red dot sights opinions

You got to love how people still give suggestions after the OP has posted which optic he decided on. And this happens a lot on this and other forums.

The OP went with a Swampfox Sentinel.

I selected the Swampfox Sentinel looks good and in my price range.

T9sfx and sfx mete

I also have the TP9SFX & METE SFX. I have a Burris Fastfire 3 - 8MOA on the TP9SFX. On the METE SFX I have a HOLOSUN HA407K 6MOA. I am completely satisfied with both. The METE takes a different size red dot than the TP9. I was also able to use the mounting plates that are supplied with both firearms. Once I got used to shooting with the dots I'll never look back. It's so much easier for my 72 yr old eyes. My target when shooting both Caniks is the size of a 25 cent piece and placed 10-15 yards. Just put the dot in the middle of that circle and BAM you become a sharpshooter LOL!

OOPS! My bad, didn't catch the post where he made a purchase. When I read that he has the same Caniks as I do I decided to chime in.

PS . I have heard nothing but good things about the Swampfox Sentinel.

Its all good and I was not calling you out for it. I was just making a general statement.

I would have recommended Holosun except that they are above the OP's price range. The Swampfox Sentinel is too but only by $25 (if one does not qualify for the MIL/LEO discount). I will probably end up buying a Holosun 507C for my Mossberg Shockwave only because the 507C has a circle dot reticle and shake to wake feature. The only Swampfox optic with a circle dot reticle is their Kingslayer which does not have the shake to wake feature.

I'm in the same age group and between cataract surgery and a detached retina I need all the help I can get. The sight was just under $200 I paid average $550 for the 2 Caniks. Fit my hand better than Glock or S&W M&P,I've had both.

Past the mid point of my seventh decade I don't see myself acquiring a Red Dot Sight. My sighted fire is adequate with conventual sights at the ranges I shoot at. This may change and I may have to rethink the subject of Red Dot Sights. Thus if and when I reach that point the Red Dot Sights maybe significantly different than currently available as this is written or basically the same with minor improvements..

I'm thinking about getting an optics ready pistol one of these days. I have had great results from Vortex dot sights on 3 guns, and a friend has a bunch of Vortex, Holosun, and even cheaper red/green dot sights on his ARs (he has a bunch, 5.56, 9mm, and .22LR),and not many problems with the cheaper ones at all. About the only difference is the glass is a little better, and the battery life is better too, but the only one that died was one of the ones CDNN sells for like $30 and it took a huge slam from a truck tailgate that probably would have taken most of the expensive ones out too.

I set up a Glock 17 MOS Gen 5 with an SRO. Why - to see how it goes. I shoot irons pretty decently but I do like the red dot for my older eyes. If you have the money, it's worth a try. As in all things Internet, we will get violent denunciations of this or that. I do think that the sights and mounting need some work. Plates and screws and this or that - too fussy. A universal, slide system and a slap on sight without the fuss and measuring tension on screws, plates is needed. Also, the control systems need some user interface work. Sequences of presses as the right time to do this or that is annoying.

I will say for Glock MOS, if one is concerned about plates, C&H Precision make an excellent plate that’s a better fit and just a little lower than the Glock ones (which are trash, IMO).

I have a sig zero on a 1911. Mainly a range gun but I carried it on a pig hunt and shot a couple of armadillo with it. These type of sights are going to keep me shooting much later into life than if I didn't have one.
I asked for a swamp fox kingslayer for Christmas for my ruger mk2. Here's hoping!
You'll love that king slayer. I love mine. Have it on my 686 Smith 38/357...

That’s what I did after some research.
