If this is old hat I apologize.

I bought my first AR (6920) with a flat top receiver last weekend and although I am not actually in the add-on mode yet I have a question.

Does the front sight interfere with say an Aimpoint PRO... or any other of these type sighting systems?

Thanks,
- Mark

Not if you co witness. You can "shoot through" the objective using irons with the dot off. If you're using the dot, a lower 1/3 cowitness keeps the front sight post below your dot, giving you a clear line of sight.

No interference. I just put an Aimpoint Pro on my BCM mid length.
Sight co-witnesses lower third.

Exactly.

No, it does not interfere. I have a 6920 with an Aimpoint PRO. Don't look at the picture and think "So that's what the sight picture looks like". It's different when you hold it in position with both eyes open. You just see what you are looking at, full on, no real obstruction from the dot's tube, with the red dot super imposed over the point of impact

The PRO with included mount is an "absolute co witness", which means that if you have a rear site or a back up rear site in the up position, and you zero the sites and the red dot, when you get your cheek weld and align the sites the red dot will be right on the top/tip of the front site post. However, you can have your eye in a lot of different places other than that one sweet spot and the red dot will still be perfect

In the image below the camera is higher up, above the stock, than your eye would be with a good cheek weld. Where the dot is is where the round would go (well, you'd have to account for where it's zero'd and how far away the target is, in this case the round would go about 2.5" below the dot, probably, since the wall is so close to the gun, but the same would be true of aligned iron sites

We were all new to it at one point. Ask all the question you want. Search function usually turns up some good info from the archives.

Makes it quicker to sight in the red dot too... Put it a tiny bit above the front sight post and centered then fine tune it on paper.

Previous posters have said that if the sight is co-witnessed or lower third co-witness is does not interfere. I say that this is a personal call, as I have a lower third co-witness red-dot sight and that stupid iron front sight sticking up in my field of view annoys the $&%# out of me! I find it distracting and for me it interferes with quick target acquisition. My next mod of my AR is going to be replacing the gas black to get rid of the intrusive front sight. YMMV.

Aimpoint Comp 4....true cowitness.

Not having a front site interferes with having backup iron sites, though.

It's a give and take.
