I bought a Remington 742 BDL today which was hardly shot. It has a Redfield Accu Range scope with the decal still on the front.

I know these scopes were used by snipers in 'Nam dressed with a military camo finish.

There are parallel horizontal hairs in the top of the scope, and of course, the ranges in the lower center.

What are the upper lines used for?

Can u guys tell me if those optics use a plex-style reticle in them? And if so is the distance between the x-hair and plex post tips wider than the 2 horizontal ranging stadia wires?

Jock's link above is incorrect as it is for the Accu-trac scope, not the Accurange scope. On the Accurange scope you adjust the scope until the 2 stadia lines bracket the chest of a dear, this is supposed to be 18 inches. When the chest just fills the lines the range marker will indicate the distance to the target.
