I have a Glenfield Model 60 (Marlin) .22 rifle with a front sight that I'm assuming to be aluminum. The sight goes around the barrel and mag tube. The black finish is worn off and I'd like to redo it myself. Does anyone know if this was originally painted or had some other finish ? I'd like it to look good without going to too much trouble. Just trying to keep busy while out on medical.

Thanks in advance.

I blast or polish the sight/band and use brownells black Baking Laq. 2 thin coats and cook in a toaster oven for 30 min at 300 degrees. If you want to stay married, don't use the wife's oven............

EX wife is looooooooonnnnnnng gone ! ( In my best Ernie Harwell voice).

Anyone have experience with Aluma-hide (sp) or other products ?

Check out Midway's web site, they have some sight paint for about 4 bucks a can. Sand the part off with 0000 steel wool and spray it lightly 3 or 4 coats.

I have tried Alumahide (hyde?) several times and trying to keep the nozzle clean for the next job never happened. The Baking Laq has never given me a problem and wears like iron. I do all my alloy rec with it when I blue things like the 10-22 or Marlin semi-autos. I even like the smell but, boy........the wife is of an entirely different opinion; hence the toaster oven out in the shop (and it keeps me from missing all them kisses).
