I'm no gunsmith by any means but, I have a good working knowledge of the weapons I carry for ccw. Anytime I install or change something on any firearm I think it needs to prove itself reliable again, color me funny that way. I just have installed a Ed Brown single sided safety in my EMP 9mm. This is my EDC. That said, it won't be my EDC again until its absolutely reliable.

I will say that this gun has several hundred rounds through it with absolutely zero defects or malf's. So if it goes to having problems,... it's something I did. My question is this, how many rounds should I run through it so its a safe bet to protect my life? So what do you all think the round count should be before it becomes my EDC again? Or should I not worry with round count and shoot it till I get the warm and fuzzy EDC feeling again?

Thanks for the opinions....

It's a completely arbitrary number, but I like 500 trouble free rounds through something before it's put into "service."

Actually, I was talking about this sort of thing with a friend recently. He won't even carry a gun after he's disassembled it until he's shot it. I can get on board with his thinking, although I'll usually carry my Glock after field stripping it without shooting it first.

Since the part was a thumb safety I would test for safety and function. Put a magazine or 2 through it without any troubles and go.
