I'd like to get another 1911 platform in 9mm. I irrationally sold my Colt Combat Commander a few years ago and am in withdrawal. Full size or Commander 5 or4" $1000 OTD is my limit, need a prescription for the cure.

You could perhaps go with the Rock Island 9mm/22TCM combo. I think they're in the $600 range.
I can highly recommend one of these 20210326_184432.jpg

It's the Sig Sauer Match Elite (circa 2012 I believe) Softest shooting 9mm I've ever owned, mostly because of its weight though...which also makes it not as pleasant to carry. I've carried mine quite a bit, and you could possibly find one used in the price range you described. Has fully adjustable rear sight and Ambi safety, if any of that matters to you.

The 1911 bug is perhaps the most viral strain
of firearms madness.

Though under $1,000 models exist, I truly think
the better way to extinguish that virulent strain
is to think more like $1,3000 or so....just in case.

However, in your range is the new Springfield
Ronin, both in commander size with aluminum
frame and all steel, forged upper and lower full sized.
SA also offers the Range Officer, a really nice
setup if you prefer adj. sights.

Perhaps you should also look at Ruger and
Colt.

Many are going to recommend Rock Island
Armory, Tisas and Taurus. They are well
under $1,000.

As @Spats McGee said, there is no cure. Unfortunately it is a lifelong affliction. Once you choose a gun you like, the best treatment for your disease is generous amounts of range time. This will only make your symptoms subside for so long, then you will need to pick up another 1911 and start the range sessions again in earnest to get it back under control. And so it goes......

We're so very sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Your wallet will never be the same, but there is no cure.
Is there an AA type group for those of us afflicted? I checked a Taurus full size and a RIA full size today when I went to the range. The Ronins now are a little over &1000 OTD
and Ruger, both, if and when available, were on my list to consider. I may wait a month or so and look to top out at $12-1300. For now I'll just have to get my 9mm fix from Beretta and S&W.

Surely you meant $1000, not $100. Because, by golly, if you know where you get a Ronin for $100, please message me with the seller's contact information immediately.

Colt and Springfield should have some that fit your criteria. Maybe Dan Wesson for a little more.

All are reputable, great 1911’s

Why choose between 9mm and 45acp?

They are not handmade masterpieces, but the RIA's really are very shootable.

I paid less than $500 OTD for the one I bought NiB.

If I had no 1911's, and $1,000 to improve that situation with, I'd be happy to get one RIA in 9mm and one in 45acp. :)

I have 2 RIA 9MM 1911'S. I think they were 300.00 ea used. Been awhile since i bought them. One is the older one with the billboard logo. And the other is newer with a front fiber optic sight.

When things get back to normal in terms of supply and demand, a new Colt Commander in 9mm. should still be just a bit under the $1K mark and make for a decent choice in a 1911. I love my Colt Commander in .38 Super which I also can run as a 9mm. with just a swap out of a complete barrel assembly and dedicated magazines. Lightweight with an aluminum alloy frame the Commander is great for concealed carry, especially for extended periods of time.

A 1911 in 9mm is just fun to shoot. I have a Springfield 9134L, at about 70K rounds now replace recoil and firing pin springs, shoot, clean, repeat (it may want a barrel soon),. Liked it so much I bought another as a spare.:)

Mine are in the safe but here is a snip from the web.

I'm jonesing for a 9mm 1911 too. Full size with target features including sights. A RIA Ultra FS might be the solution. Meets OPs price target.

All great, interesting post, Thanks. Good value in the Taurus and RIA's, but with a lot of black guns now, I'm leaning towards spending more for a Two-tone or Stainless.(Kimbers & Ronins) Considered a .45 for esthetic reasons and owned them before. Just don't need that for any practical reason & loved the 9mm Commander I used to have. My permit is good until November if need be, so patience may be the best course for now, while monitoring the price/availability issues. Thanks again for the ideas & input.

I got bit by the 1911 bug back in the day when I joined a local IPSC club. I've owned several over the years, 45's and 9mm's both. I finally exorcised that demon about ten years or so ago.

Or so I thought.

ONE little tiny Kimber 380. That can't hurt anything can it? I can handle it. It's just one. There won't be another one.

(edited)_(edited)_Kimber380a.png

So much for that idea. The next one really fits into what the OP asked about. This time it was a Kimber Pro Carry II, a commander sized example. I have long admired Kimber's Blue/white/Rosewood color combo. This one is a 45, but they make the same thing in 9mm. I probably would have gotten a 9mm, but I had a box of 45 acp ammo at home. Yea...that's it. I already had ammo. Besides, they didn't have one in 9mm. And you gotta have at least one 45 ACP. Right?

Kimber45.jpg

By now I'm starting to shake and shiver. OK. I'm not going to carry the 45, just too big and heavy for me. But do I really want to trust the 380? It's a nice little gun, accurate and reliable, but it's a 380.

So the obvious solution was...a Kimber Micro 9mm. Only a little bigger and heavier than the 380, it holds 7+1, 9mm. And I reload 9mm, and have at least one coffee can full, with a couple of bags of brass, a few hundred primers, and Berry's bullets on the shelf. I'm not ready to carry it just yet. I haven't had a chance to shoot it with HP ammo, but with FMJ, I put about 100 rounds through it. I hope to get it back to the range in the next day or two for a run with carry ammo.

KimberMicro9.jpg

So far, I've probably got 400-500 rounds through all three. Not a lot, but the ammo shortage makes it a little harder. I asked about 45 ACP. The guy at the range just smiled as if to say, "You foolish child." So then I asked about 45 Colt. He couldn't take that. He had to laugh out loud. He knew then I was just pulling his leg.

I can quit anytime I want to.

That’s one gun on my radar, excellent choice .

Let us know how it shoots for you when you get a chance :).

Stay safe.

HA! Hundreds of thousands of rounds fired in a multitude of firearms, decades spent learning about and modifying them and the guy thinks he an expert! Wait until I show this to my magazine reading, YouTube addicted buddies, they'll set him straight.
