I got bit by the 1911 bug back in the day when I joined a local IPSC club. I've owned several over the years, 45's and 9mm's both. I finally exorcised that demon about ten years or so ago.
Or so I thought.
ONE little tiny Kimber 380. That can't hurt anything can it? I can handle it. It's just one. There won't be another one.
So much for that idea. The next one really fits into what the OP asked about. This time it was a Kimber Pro Carry II, a commander sized example. I have long admired Kimber's Blue/white/Rosewood color combo. This one is a 45, but they make the same thing in 9mm. I probably would have gotten a 9mm, but I had a box of 45 acp ammo at home. Yea...that's it. I already had ammo. Besides, they didn't have one in 9mm. And you gotta have at least one 45 ACP. Right?
By now I'm starting to shake and shiver. OK. I'm not going to carry the 45, just too big and heavy for me. But do I really want to trust the 380? It's a nice little gun, accurate and reliable, but it's a 380.
So the obvious solution was...a Kimber Micro 9mm. Only a little bigger and heavier than the 380, it holds 7+1, 9mm. And I reload 9mm, and have at least one coffee can full, with a couple of bags of brass, a few hundred primers, and Berry's bullets on the shelf. I'm not ready to carry it just yet. I haven't had a chance to shoot it with HP ammo, but with FMJ, I put about 100 rounds through it. I hope to get it back to the range in the next day or two for a run with carry ammo.
So far, I've probably got 400-500 rounds through all three. Not a lot, but the ammo shortage makes it a little harder. I asked about 45 ACP. The guy at the range just smiled as if to say, "You foolish child." So then I asked about 45 Colt. He couldn't take that. He had to laugh out loud. He knew then I was just pulling his leg.
I can quit anytime I want to.
