George Washington is a distant cousin. However, I am a direct descendant of William Brewster (Mayflower) and of dozens of those who came to this continent during "The Great Migration"; at least 10 towns and cities in Connecticut were founded by my ancestors.

nitetrane98, I am also a cousin to Princess Diana, FDR, Bush, Cheney, Palin, Grover Cleveland, and US Grant. I would bet that our two families are connected.

So where is a good place to look up geneology that doesn't cost an arm and a leg??

A great place to start is online searching. Millions of people have their genealogies online. Just Google your family members names, and you may get lucky and find them in someone's genealogy. Also, Google books may have a book online that will contain a family member.

When you do your search, if you can include a place of residence or birth, your results will be more useful.

PM me if you have any questions about online searching.

BTW, if Ancestry.com will fit into your budget, it is a great tool.

Look like maybe wheelgunslinger and I are distantly related - 'cause I am related to the Jame's brother, too.

One of the cousins has the dresser that was their Mother's when the Pinkerton's shot up her house; and yes, it does have bullet holes in it.

One of my ancestors was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Since I'm named after him, I'd rather not say who. I am proud of him though and I get my patriotism directly from that side of my family.

my uncle has a huge packet of research that his daughter did...right back to my paternal grandmothers family stepping off the boat at Plymouth. I think the ancestors name was Barzilla King. Not famous but noteworthy lineage.

I'm a direct descendant of Davy Crockett's brother, William Crockett.

Also I go waaaay back to William the Bruce.

Also descended from many who faught With Sam Houston in the Texas War of Independence, and from the Civil War, War of 1812, and Revolutionary War but none you would recognize by name.

None that I know of...

But, my Mother, when in her teens, had briefly dated the cousin of Gavrilo Princip, who'd shot Archduke Ferdinand some while before...a famous Shot, if not per-se a still famous shooter...

Mathew Thornton, he was the last person to sign the Decleration of Independance, then Andrew Jackson on my mothers side

Great great great grandmother on my fathers fathers side was a cousin of General Custers. I believe she (my g-g-g-grandmother) was the daughter of Mary Custer, sister of John Custer (General Custers father).

My great great great grandfather (On my fathers mothers side) fought under Custer, then his brother got sick and he had to go take care of him, and while he was gone Custers Last Stand took place. I might not be here today if it wasn't for someone getting sick.

My paternal g-g-grandmother was a g-granddaughter of Squire Boone, who was Daniel's brother.

That associated g-g-grandfather, along with his son, my g-grandfather, served in the Civil War and was noted among his peers as an excellent game shot.
