Reloading the new shells vs the old shells, the crimps don't end up the same. This leaves shot pouring out of the gap... Do I readjust every time I load a shell or just use overshot cards? Does the overshot card effect the end result, the pattern?

I have and am loading both currently and have not noticed any difference. If a factory crimp is not closely achieved pressure can vary greatly. I believe there was and article in Handloader magazine within the last year or so on crimps. In the past if I have have spillage there was not enough wad or shot.

A Mec has a taper adjustment that when adjusted, should close any gap. An over shot card should not be used, it will spread the pattern.

The new AA is a failure in my book. Remington STS are the way to go for reloading. Kind of like when they changed the formula of Coke.

The aahs hull is a bit shorter than the old compression formed hulls. I don't load them (prefer the rem hulls in 12 and 20), but I believe you will have to adjust your press for them. You should use wads designed for the aahs hulls as well, the separate base wad can catch on the powder skirt of the wads. Wads for the aahs hulls have a slight bevel on the powder skirt to preclude that.

There were problems with early versions of the aahs hull. The base wad could come loose. There were reports of a few kabooms resulting from loose base wads lodging in the forcing cone. The next shot would result in a kaboom. This was apparently fixed some time ago.

Can anyone confirm that the Remington Gun Club hulls are still the same and reloadable as the STS's. I am thinking they are not the same. My trap club just switched to Gun Clubs and the collection bins are overflowing. Up to this point I have only loaded old style Win AA's. Sounds best to not commingle the new Win AA hulls with my old collection. No such problem if I "go green" and load Remington's.

The GC hulls are not the same as STS hulls overall (different base, different plastic, etc.) but the internal dimensions are close enough such that you can use the two hulls interchangeably from a recipe perspective. You will not get the same number of reloads from the GC as from the STS, but given their abundance they're cheap and easy way to get a couple of reloads. I usually toss them after the first reload, since I don't want to have to track how many times they've been reloaded.

Show some pictures of your finished shells, they might give some ideas as to what exactly is happening.

What equipment are you using to reload? If you are using a Lee Load All, you might consider a MEC Jr.

I reload 20 GA on a Load All and the crimp must be firm, if not sometimes the petals start to spread and shot can come out. On the Load All, the shell must be oriented in a certain way to begin the crimp, else it will be bad. I load AA hulls exclusively and have not noticed a difference between between the old AA and the newer AAHS. I must add though I have not bought a box of AA shells in 6 years so if there is a newer version yet of the AAHS, I have not loaded them.

I load .410 AA hulls on a MEC Jr and by far this press is superior to the Lee Load All. I intend on getting one for my 20 someday.

I use the Lyman ShotShell Loaders guide version 5. There are recipes for STS hulls in that, but not specifically for Gun Club. Do the Gun Clubs have a nickel base? If so, as said above you might get one or two reloads from each. Make sure to check your recipes.

Gun Club and STS shells are dimensionally the same and can use the same loads interchangeably. The GC's have steel hulls instead of brass, so just be careful not to pick any up that have gotten wet. In my area, GC hulls are the preferred hulls for reloading. I get an average of 8-9 loads from my GC's before tossing, but only shoot a light 7/8oz. trap load.

Nobody messes with the AA's anymore since they went to the new construction.

Thank you for the advice. I will scarf up the Gun Clubs. Hopefully I can get a plastic tubs worth before the trap club switches back to a different color.
