I reload for both 308 Winchester and 300 Savage. I would like to know if a 308 neck sizer can be chucked up and shortened to accomodate both 308 and 300 Savage?

Is the cost to shorten the die less than the $30 dollars it would cost to get a 300 Savage neck die from Midway?

Another neck sizer question.
At Sportsman's Warehouse, I saw a Lyman neck sizing die that looked to be a generic 30 cal neck sizer. It comes in long and short lengths. If this is a generic neck sizer, does it work OK?

Yes I should've bought a 300 Savage neck die. But I didn't. Didn't have the rifle at the time. Got the rifle now and it's mine forever.

Thanks

You will need one of the universal type neck sizers. Best I have seen is Hornady. Generic neck sizers do the same as the regular ones, they just eliminate half the die--the end you don't need. That is for Hornady's short style.

I think one case is too fat and one is too short to make the switch either way using standard neck dies.

Hornady makes a generic neck sizer for 30 cal. I like the Lee collet dies-and you should be able to pick 1 of each for about $30, give or take. Because they use a mandrel, no lube needed.
