Reloading for 9mm carbine and pistols

They sure like Power Pistol for 9mm carbines in the Lyman reloading manual. (#49)
It's listed as the most accurate powder with almost every bullet and also top velocity.
And if you don't mind muzzle blast, it will work in your Glock too.
W231 is much nicer in a pistol though.

BE-86 is my powder of choice for 9mm. I load for the most accurate for each pistol and have a couple that share the same load and are labeled as such. My 8” AR-9 likes 3 different loads equally so I just load up extra for it.

Is it just me or am I one of the few people that uses Win 231? Lol everyone else seems to use different powders, just asking. If so why do others use the powders they do?
Variety is the spice of life. I have worked up loads for 231 in several calibers including 9mm and have tagged it with an acceptable qualifier. It scores well in accuracy, precision, velocity, felt recoil, metering, cleanliness, smoke(less), and predictability. It’s cousin W244 is very similar, if you like 231 chances are you’ll like 244.
I load for the games and prefer a slightly faster powder but if I can’t get that, 231 will definitely work. The press is currently setup for Target, but the prior runs were ASP. Good luck.

I am fairly new to reloading for 9x19, but I too use 231. Have gotten some acceptable loads using Unique but have found 231 easier to meter and cleaner to shoot. Just my $.02

.......If I decide to shoot my Ruger carbine in matches I might work up a load for it (once primer supply comes back), but would not be concerned about using what I currently use in my pistols.
Don't forget to try the "Little Lasers" that Walkalong found in the VV load charts. Pretty sweet, at least for me and a few others. AoG
Thanks for the Christmas card, Dudedog :D
Merry Christmas to all the fine folks on THR and may the New Year bring good health and prosperity to you and your families!

In 9mm, you will find a lot of combinations will work just fine in both pistols and carbines. Thats what ive found.
Now, with slower powders (slow for 9mm) and heavier bullets you can make some superb loadings for the carbine that probably wouldnt be ideal out of the 26. For example Blue Dot, Longshot, or AA#7 with 147 grain bullets.
YES you can make different loadings to be optimized for each, especially since your barrel lengths are so different. Were talking if you want OPTIMAL performance.

I have a 10mm Glock 40 MOS and a CMMG Banshee and ive developed loads for both, mostly because the Banshee has a fully unsupported chamber, and the upper end loads, the brass comes out looking like a mushroom. Although CMMG says its not a problem, nor is it unsafe....but i sure dont like it. They say that UZIs do the same thing, and have a huge unsupported area of the chamber.

You might find that your 9mm carbine may not be able to take as high of pressure rounds as your pistol, based on diminishing returns of velocity, and pressure signs, etc. Enjoy, its fun developing loads custom made for certain weapons.

I did ladder tests with my pistols and 6.5 inch barrel PCC. That test was with Unique powder, and the best loads for each were different. However I noticed that any barrel 4-6.5" inches had a middle-ground node.

I decided to go with a load that favors the PCC because the reality is that a 9mm pistol is a defense gun meant to be used way under 50 yds, more like 5-25 or less (Likely 3) based on the majority of statistics on incidents.

9mm is not a great round to push 100 yds and get rifle accuracy, so I tested my PCC at 25 and 50 yds. Any farther than that, and you can run. I settled on the load best for 50 yards, and it ended up being good in pistols at 25 yds. You need to test your guns to see what the right load is for your set.

BTW I have a 3.5 inch barrel carry gun which I tested. If you do too, leave it out of the ladder unless you wanna burn components, it's not going to tell you much.

I use Titegroup for most plinking and non-magnum loads. Clean burning and cheap per shot.

Win-231 I use in my Silent Destroyer subsonic loads for accuracy.

SR-4759 for cast bullets. Puffiness and burn rate.
