Reloading for caliber you own?

I have loading dies for most every arm I have that is reloadable.

I do not load .45 ACP hardball, .38 Special 'service' round, 9x19 'standard' or .32 ACP handgun as it is boring and can be bought in bulk for less than my sweat.
I do load for .44 Special, .45 AutoRim, .455 Webley and some self-defense .38 Special as the configuration of ammunition is not available in commercial form. But I don't shoot them constantly and load them in bursts. Or fits, as the case may be.
There's a Super .38 I haven't shot for a number of years, and I have no reason to keep it. Not sure what to do about it.

I collect rifles from WWI, so I do load for all of them as they are not commercially available in 'issue' configuration. Some ammunition is simply not made any more; like 6.5x53mmR Mannlicher (6.5 Dutch or Romanian).

I load for hunting rifles for my own purposes. Mostly cost.
I have a 7.63x39mm rifle made by CZ with a scaled down 98 Mauser sort of action. I load a 150 bullet at about 2300 fps. Tula makes a 154 grain version at 2150 fps for my rifle. I suppose that would do, but I'm a reloader. I am juggling information and am looking to load a 170 grain bullet at suitable for hunting; I think it should be feasible.
Another rifle is a CZ made (full strength action) rifle in 6.5x55mm. So I improve on the original a bit. I have a few Mauser 94 and 96 rifles as well. Ammunition is kept in well marked boxes.
Other rifle calibers include .243 Win, .257 Roberts, 7x57mm, and a couple of 9.3x various mm rifles. Oh, an 8x60mm built on a 98 Mauser action (made by FN). .375 Ruger, .45-70 (in a m1903 action), 450-400 NE 3.25" and a .458 Winchester Manglenumb.

Like many here, except for shotgun, I am equipped to load for all centerfire cartridge firearms I own. There are a few cartridges that I haven't gotten to reload for yet, but I have the dies and components for.

9MM is what I shoot/load for the most, usually 50% of what I load in a year.

I have never bothered with 9mm and 223 due to how cheap and plentiful the ammo is.

What do you guys do?

I reload everything I shoot.

Where are you getting this cheap plentiful 9mm ammo? Cheapest they have at TargetSports right now is $799.80 for a case. Don't think it will be letting up anytime soon.

Well, right now if youre really needing ammo and didn't stock up for the past few years while it's been cheap, reloading those cheap calibers might make more sense.

Buying ammo right now for prices similar to what you mention here wouldn't be wise. It'll level back out. Always does.

I'm thinking of buying a .41 Magnum because I have to reload it if I want to shoot somewhat affordably. Again, I have a problem. :)
I've said this before, but....

I had a set of 41 Mag dies. I have no idea how long I owned the dies, or even how I came to own them.
I had never owned a 41 Mag. I don't remember getting them in a trade. I know for certain I didn't purchase the set.

And yet, there they sat. For years.

I would move them to another shelf. I offered them up as a trade sweetener. I considered selling the set.

I never did anything with them, the dies just sat there.

Then, one day at the big Tulsa show, I spied a 3-screw Flattop Ruger in..... Yep, 41 Mag.

It came home with me, and all is right with the world.

After that story, I'll say I reload everything except 380 ACP and 32 ACP. Just cuz I haven't gotten around to it yet.

And them 32 cases are so itty bitty....

I pick up all the brass I can find. Once I had acquired a few dozen 10mm brass, I bought a 10mm Witness Elite. Then I found some 50AE brass and discovered that is for the Desert Eagle. Once I had enough 50AE brass to fill a couple of mags, I bought a Desert Eagle. I would love to find some 500 S&W brass, but those dang revolver shooters don’t leave their brass on the ground. :(

I’ve always bought dies and brass for any rifle or handguns that I have bought and load my own! Very seldom buy centerfire Ammo unless cases of 9mm and 380’s!

I'm sure I missed something....

Living in CA being a law abiding citizen I refuse to participate in the background check game to buy ammo.

I'm in the same boat as you. Just imagine standing in line to buy ammo now with the way things are. I see around 100 people lined up outside just to buy guns/ammo at bass pro. One would think you'd arrive to quite a few empty shelves by the time you made it in. Hundreds of thousands are denied mistakenly through the instant background check through bureaucratic error and I see turners says standard background checks are taking longer than 10 days. Imagine you're mistakenly denied on the instant check and have to cough up $19 to wait perhaps 2 weeks for the standard check to go through to get your ammo. No thanks!

With the exception of specialty ammo, I buy almost all of my factory ammo from TargetSportsUSA. They ship to New York Residents, usually have what I want and if not they notify me when it comes in. For $99 per year I am a premier member and get an additional 8% off and free shipping regardless of the quantity. They have not been price gouging either.

Otherwise I buy from KSS and some other specialty suppliers like CNC Associates, Clint Swigert, All Seasons Ammo etc..

The two calibers I have guns for that I don't reload are .22LR and 12 ga. All my other guns get fed ammo that I've created.

I don't reload the bulk cartridges: 9mm, .40S&W, 5.56 (or the rimfires, obviously). I load everything else.

ETA: While I don't load 5.56 for the AR, I do load .223 for my bolt actions.

I'd like to, but after driving for 3 hours and 80+ miles, I don't think there is a pound of AA #7 in this whole state besides someone else's stash... grrrr....

I reload for:

.22 Hornet
6.5 X 55 Swede
7mm Rem Mag
.30-30
.30-40 Krag
.308 Win
.30-06
.303 Brit
.35 Brown-Whelen

.38 Special
.357 Mag
.45 ACP
.45 Colt

I have dies for a few other cartridges that I don't own.

While I have the capability of loading for everything I own there are a few calibers like 7.62 X 39 I haven't loaded in years. I haven't shot it in maybe a decade and have a few thousand loaded rounds. Calibers like 308 Win and 223 Rem I load pretty regular as well as 45 ACP and 45 Colt, 38 Special and 357 Magnum. Anyway, can I load for everything I own? Then yes.

I try to explain to my wife how much of a good deal that I am getting with a new firearm. That each caliber I own is just another tool in the tool box. She knows better now. That a new caliber also means a set of dies, bullets, new powder, hours on the range testing multiple loads. So she tacks an additional couple hundred dollars onto the price tag of every gun.

Been shooting a S&W Model 25 .45acp for 35+ yrs and it never has seen a factory round yet. My Kahr K9 has seen one box of factory ammo in 30+ yrs (only to get
some brass.)
