Greetings Gents and Ladies, a question for you all.

Found some once fired Lake City 07 and 08 5.56 brass at the range today. Some of it has clearly been fired through an HK or variant with a fluted chamber. There are mild fluting impressions left in the cases. If I full length resize, will I have any trouble with these in my AR? I know small dents will fireform out of brass, will the flutes iron out the same way? I have found mixed reviews of this on various forums and searches so if you have firsthand experience I would really appreciate it.

Many thanks.

I load them, but also look for the burr on the case rim. Sometimes you have to use a fine file to take it off. I use them for plinking brass. Not pretty, but practical.

Hope this helps.

Yes. As far as I know, all the rifle caliber roller delayed blowback designs have fluted chambers.I don't know about the subguns.

Yes, and love or hate HK, it really was a genius move. I put it right up there with the tapered round design of the AK as a method of ensuring extraction.

Ripping the head off of a case in a firefight is a surefire way of taking that gun out of the fight.

Pulled the brass out of the tumbler this morning. After cleaning the ridges in the brass are a lot less pronounced.

I will let you guys know how it turns out.

Are there any bottle-neck cases that aren't tapered?

Just make sure you check the case length. They have a tendency to stretch.

I trim all brass the first time I load it and then check on subsequent firings to see if it needs it again.

Some are tapered more than others.

223 Rem/5.56 has relatively little taper. 7.62x39 has a lot.

I have loaded a fair amount of 308 previously fired in an HK. My loads are mid-range for my FAL's, using 147gr surplus. I also trim all cases before loading them the first time. I haven't notices any degredation of accuracy or function. Most of mine are only on the 2nd or 3rd firing, so I don't know how it will affect case life. They do tend to require a little more pressure with the press when resizing.
