So, if you're going to reload M855, what bullets is one going to use? What is the bullet equivalent?

Ouch! 500 69 Gr. Sierra MatchKings are cheaper.

I'd wager that you can shoot groups 1/3rd the size with the SMK(s).
Of course, the supply is quickly drying up. Wideners had them for $60/500 shipped until the panic set in.

thats the other agenda, dry up supplies in country.

monolithic for ars will be next.

I just saw a story on the ATF attempts to ban loaded M855 and SS109(s). Sad stuff.

I was never a fan of SS109(s), for I had little use for them. They're about as inaccurate of a bullet as I can think of.

Now I'll be sad to see them go.

I still remember when cases (1K) of Lake City M193 was $100, and nobody bought them, assuming that would stay the same.

The politics nowadays! :banghead:

Arch,
I was responding to the OP. The issue of cost was not addressed, and the price went up in the time between our posts. That is a ridiculous price, about what full up ammo should cost. But 855 is in panic mode now. Surplus ammo, to me, is now in the same category as CTD: gougers! They used to be OK but it seems they got greedy.

I agree, M109 is not that accurate but it's the principle that BATF can ban a cartridge that is NOT armor piercing just by saying it IS armor piercing. If this stands, what else will they ban? And there will be other things banned, bet on that.

Thanks to all for the responses. I agree, SS109/M855 is far more inferior round than other alternatives, but for the sake of science, I do enjoy figuring out the physics of different loads in my rifles to find the sweet spot for a particular round.

I've got a AR that loves them loaed with surplus mil powder. Not that you can get it anymore either.

My only reason for buying surplus ammo WAS the low price. I never thought it was better than the commercial ammo, only cheaper for range fun. It's a darn shame this countries leaders and voters have lost their way.

moxie,
I wasn't saying you did anything wrong. I was only "adding" I just can't accept those prices.

Just wow. I feel bad for that 3 guys out there that are actually getting their best groups with those bullets.
