My friend's cousin is selling her deceased husband's guns and she offered me a Remington 11-87, Special Purpose slug gun with a fully rifled barrel in matte finish and it has a Leupold 2x7 scope mounted on the cantilevered sight base. The black synthetic stock has a Monte Carlo comb. It's in 98% condition and she's asking $500.00

She's a nice lady and I like the gun - so all I'm looking for is a fair deal. I already have four Remington auto shotguns (plus two 870 pumps) and I'm pleased with their reliability, but I don't know how accurate Remington's slug guns are and I also want to know if it's worth the $500.00?.....9x23

Go for it. If you don't like it you should easily get your money back with that scope. A friend had the same rig with a Bushnell scope if I recall and he took deer out to 150 yards with no problems. Two 10 pointers and an 8 in three years.

With the scope it's a good buy. I'd also ask if he had any ammo for it that could be included in the deal.

Saddling up. Gonna go git it.

I didn't think I was going to buy this slug gun. However with all the positive comments and no negative input I took everyone's advice and called the lady and told her to wrap it up to go!

I'm bringing two boxes of 1 oz. slugs (It's Sunday and Wally World doesn't have any 1 1/4 oz. 3" slugs in stock - some surprise there!) and after a 22 mile drive to pick it up, I'll stop at my friend's farm on the way back and try it out.

I do appreciate everyone's input and I feel a lot better about the purchase - thanks.....9x23

Too wet to really test...

I picked up the gun, but it was raining too hard to give it a real test. We never got off my friend's back porch, however, I took three off-hand shots at a 55 gal. can that was about 50 yards away and it looked like a 3" spread at about where I "thought" they should go. I was mostly concerned with function yesterday and if it ever stops raining I'll bench it and see what happens.

What would be a practical (read - deer) range to sight it in with using 1 1/4 oz. slugs?

BTW, I was going to do as PJR suggested, but when I got there the woman gave me a nice black nylon (?) sling with quick release swivels, a scope cover and 5 boxes of ammunition without me asking. Like I said,"...a nice lady."
