So far, I really like my 700 Police. Have not shot it yet, but I like it.

I like the funky matte non-glare finish, too.

Problem is - the rough finish shaves lint from my various cleaning cloths - making the gun terribly difficult to give a quick wipe down to. Wipe it down and it looks worse than before it was cleaned.

Silicone cloths, cotton patches, rags - whatever - get torn up by the sandpaper like finish on this gun.

How to other 700PSS/P owners clean their guns?

Thanks.

Use a black cloth. Old undershirt, something like that. Any lint will blend right in!:D

I had always thought my silicone cloths were lint free, but the finish shaves stuff right off it!

If I am ever stranded with my 700 the barrel can double as a saw for creating a shelter.

I've had mine for a couple years and still don't have any great solution. I apply oil with a spray can and then wipe it off with an old pair of jeans. It actually leaves less crap on there than t-shirts and such. I've though several times about waxing it to make it a little smoother, but I've never gotten around to it.

I use Bullfrog Gun Wipes on my 870 Express, also with a sandpaper-like finish.

The finish also tends to hold sweat, so I've had surface rust a few times when I've used it on hot days without a wipedown afterwards. Bullfrog Gun Wipes actually removed the rust a week later.

Anyway, scroll down:

A tiny amount of lint does get stuck to the gun, but not much, and it comes off with a quick flick of the fingernail.

I have the PERFECT solution to this problem!

At my local grocery store, I happened across some "shoe polish applicators" which are basically small foam pads with plastic handles on them to keep your fingers away from whatever it is you are applying with them.

They work PERFECTLY for all guns, especially parkerized guns since foam is incapable of leaving behind any lint or other junk.

Well, at least until it starts to break down because of the gun oil....but they are of course very cheap (2 for $2) so you just throw it away.

I've been using these things now for final external oiling of ALL my guns and they work great as they are incapable of leaving behind any lint and they leave a streak-free oiled finish.

You must go buy some!
