Ok, ok! I am a fumble fingered knothead. That's why I am not a gunsmith. I know my limitations and I have 99.9% of my gun work done by a gunsmith.
However, a couple weeks ago I had my Remington 700 SPS inverted in a cradle during a cleaning ritual, went to turn it over and when the safety button caught on the rubber padding ..."Pop! Ping, ping, pingggggg!":( The button and about 1/4" of the lever went bouncing across my shop floor!:what:

Gun Parts Corp. is "out of stock". :uhoh: I have standing orders at two different gunsmiths' shops. It's been three weeks and still no luck. :banghead::banghead: Neither 'smith thinks welding is a viable alternative as the metal is crystalized and looks more like potmetal than steel.:cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

Does anyone have a spare safety lever for a Remington 700 they would part with?

Thanks for any help.

What does Remington say? It might be as simple as going to them directly instead of through a Smith. Maybe ask them if they will mail it to the smith if they don't want a customer dealing with safeties. The manufacturers sometimes treat customers a little better then Smiths and vice versa.

adweisbe,
I haven't tried Rem on the phone, but their web site doesn't provide for ordering the part.
I'll give Remington's phone a try, eventhough I have had little success with other Mfr's) when parts and ammo are discussed.
I'll let you know what happens...

That safety is a part of the trigger group and Remington is VERY sensitive about folks messing around in that area. I expect they might ask you to send the rifle to them and send you a shipping label so the cost is on them. I recommend that if that is the result, you take advantage of the offer.

The safety is a restricted part by Remington so your chances of getting one are not good.

You will probably have to find someone who has replaced their 700 trigger with an aftermarket and see if they will part it out .Or you will have to buy an after market yourself

Thanks!

adweisbe,
Server went down at work yesterday. Didn't get back to the thread until this AM.
Thanks for the Brownell's tip! I never even gave them a thought. The link was great help! The Rifle Basix unit appears stronger than the original one, too.
Thanks again!:D :D
