Wondering what "in the wild" prices folks have encountered on 30-06 7600s lately. It's my understanding they are running on the high side.

Reason I'm asking, is a LGS has one with a little honest wear, but overall quite good shape. The scope fitted to it isn't a high dollar premium, but not a throw away either. I feel like their price is on the low end, by a lot, but hoping some of your answers give me a reason not to buy it.

All the 760s and 7600s are commanding a premium, and the carbine versions are even more.

I searched for a decent donor rifle for a few years and finally won a GB auction for a .243 22" 7600 that was reasonable just a couple months ago.

The whole project is here:

Prior to the auction, I spent a few weeks in PA for work and hit about every gunshop in the surrounding area looking for one, and they were all $1K Plus. Just too much for what I wanted, knowing how much I was going to put into it to get it the way I wanted.

With any luck mine will be done in a couple weeks.

Wish I had known you were looking. I've seem to run across them quite often here in MN. The big stores know what they're worth, but you see quite a few in janky gunshops and flyers at small town bars and gun clubs for sale. We have a lot of waterfowlers here, and the 870 shotgun is king. Natural many would gravitate to a Rem pump rifle. My Uncles both did. One had a .244, the other a .280 Rem. Wish they hadn't sold those shortly after they sold the hunting land in the early '80s! My 3rd uncle (RIP) had a Ruger .44 mag carbine. Talk about some interesting big woods rifles.

Yes, that helps very much. I should probably re-visit said LGS with $500 in my pocket.

You could pick it up for $500 and easily move it on GunBroker for $1000+. There's been multiple auctions I've watched where the carbines have gone for close to $2K.

Here's one at $1000 now with 17 bids:

This ones up to $1535 with a day left:

308 Carbine up to $1600 now with 1 day left, with 4 bids:

I never in a million years thought they'd be going for so much until I tried finding one.

I probably lost 15 Auctions on BG when they went higher than I wanted to pay. The one I did get had some field use, but internally looked new. There's just no way I was going to pay those prices knowing I was going to put another $1300 into it to get it to where I wanted.

I was just about to give up and buy a BLR to have bored out when I snagged the one I did. When all is said and done I'll have just shy of 2K tied up in it before I get the optic.

Yeah I tried a couple years ago finding a 7400 or 760 for a friend. I couldn't believe the prices. I found him a bolt action instead. I switched to a bolt action myself but to each his own. I have fond memories of the many times my 742 and 7400 harvested deer without fail.

Yeah, I just blooded my 760 in .300 Savage last year. That's why this 7600 in 30-06 got on my radar. An Ont or Manitoba moose hunt may be in my future, and it would be fun to sling some 220 GR cruise missiles in the thick stuff.

If nothing else I enjoy shooting the 760 just for fun, but 30-06 brass is a bit easier to come by these days. With my M1 Garand loads, it should be about the same as shooting the .300 Sav.

Yeah my '63 760 ADL is low comb.
Low rings on Weaver base and its usable, actually not bad.

But if I had a high comb stock I coulda went w Burris Signature Zee rings.
I don't like scratching up scopes.

It is getting closer to Xmas.
Expect some silly prices on GB.

Getting the exact gift, before or after hunting season, often gets out of the ordinary money.

Just because stuff looks the same..........

I'm sure somebody will think a reg 760 .30-06 w Ramline synth stock is worth as much as a Grice 7600 .35 Rem synth carbine LOL

FWIW I wanted a .35 rem carbine, later run 760.
But settled on an old beater ADL rifle.
NOT what I wanted, but figured maybe close enough.

Having hunted it a couple of seasons, indeed I think it "good enough".
There's no romance here of Big Green or family history w pump guns and/or deer hunting.

Like the mild cartridge. Repeater. Nimble.
Sub 150 yards, or up close n fast in the woods, it's dandy.

If a 7600 .308 carbine pops up reasonable, yeah, I'd proly have to snag it.
They did make some in .250 and .300 savage too, limited run.
I liked the old Model Six's too.
Unfortunately, those Ive found usually have a botched rear sling stud install. And or are beat to heck.

Big fan of the Rem 760, have three from first year production ('06, 308, 300Sav).
Yes, theyre currently going for more than they're worth, ESPECIALLY the carbines. Looking for one (rifle length) in 270 if y'all see one for non-armageddon prices.

I bought one on a GunBroker auction about 12 years ago. I can't remember what I paid for it, but I doubt it was over $500. When it came, it turned out to be in near-mint condition; despite the crappy scope that came with it, it was a good buy. It was in 30-06, with a left-hand safety. I'd wanted a left-hand 760 for 40 years, and finally got one. :)
