How many shots is this gun? 6+1?

I like the fixed mag tube versus the extension. What are the pluses/drawbacks to this fixed mag tube versus the extension?

One piece tube extension is better. Stronger..Yeah it should be a 6+1 on a 18inch barrel.

I believe that's a Remington 870 Tactical, which is built on the Express platform, but has a one-piece magazine tube.

That would make it a dedicated 6+1, rather than a 4+1 with a two shot extension, as some of the other Expresses have. Only drawback is some prefer the lighter weight and balance of the 4+1 configuration.

I putative advantage to an integrated, one-piece magazine tube is greater reliability.

A potential disadvantage to the Tactical line is the barrels are dedicated, too -- you can't swap out for other Remington barrels.

Drawback is that removing the barrel won't shorten the receiver assembly very much for storage/transport, advantage is that the one-piece magazine tube should feed more smoothly than a 4-round magazine with an extension.

If you want another 870 with a longer barrel, just go buy a used one. They usualy run $175-$200 for a nice used model.

I have around 6 870's they all have there own job and setup.

Is that a Knoxx Stock? I've seen them for sale here and there; they look pretty cool, but a little too expensive.

Anyway to the question at hand: A one piece extended tube magazine adds weight and length to the gun. I would personally get a one with a four round tube, and buy a magazine tube extender if I need one, or get one like mine in which the it can be switched from extended, to "normal" capacity

I have that particular 870. But because they are so inexpensive I have 6 others as TroyR does, and each has it's dedicated purpose. That tactical is a 6+1. I prefer the one piece myself for reliable feeding reasons.

I'm glad they started manufacturing the 870 with the longer mag tube myself. I think it's long overdue for a dedicated defensive shotgun.

American gun manufacturers got so much on board with the magazine capacity limits imposed by the migratory bird laws that they seem to have lost sight of other shotgun applications. It's about time they did this at Remington IMHO.

My son has had the plastic extension on his tactical 870 for a few years and shot hundreds of rounds through it and hasn't had any feed problems.

If someone wants only a dedicated home defense set up, non-swapping is to me a non-issue.

You hit the nail on head: If the OP is only going to use the gun for HD then there's no disadvantage; but if he plans to customize it somewhere down the road then that one piece mag tube will major PITA to work around.
