I've finally decided to upgrade my waterfowl gun, and I've narrowed it down to these two. My buddy has the Maxus, but I can't find anyone who has the Versamax. They are close in price, but I am looking for someone to give an educated opinion on the Remington.

Thanks!

My buddy has the Maxus and other than some cosmetic issues he's had with it, it's been a great gun for him. I shoot 3-gun and there are quite a few versamax's. Everyone I talk to absolutely loves them.

I like the feel and fit of the VersaMax. However, it seems to depend on the particular gun that you see at the time. I have looked over a few that are smooth and well manufactured. I have seen just as many that still have burrs and sharp areas on them like they were not finished properly. Be careful and look over what you choose carefully. I have not heard any complaints on the Maxus.

I had a Maxus Hunter 3" 26" bbl version which was reliable with anything I put in it. Shot skeet with a lot of 1oz loads and it never malfunctioned.

The Maxus would be my choice..no question.

I am an admitted Remington fan. I like the way the VersaMax meters the gas into the system; it doesn't just bleed off excess gasses like most designs. If they come out with one in blued and walnut and no tapped holes in the receiver, I may jump on it. I like the feel of the VersaMax also. But, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the Maxus either. I would pick the one that feels best to you.

Thanks everybody. I agree, it's probly gonna come down to personal fit. I just need to put my hands on them about 300 more times before I decide.....
