Remanufacturing Primers...

I had always wondered just what was inside a primer... The only thing I see wrong with doing that is the amount of time it would take to make 500-1000!

While it's a interesting video and I give the guy credit for his patience and attention to detail.......In a WTSHTF scenario, caps for toy guns will probably be harder to find than real primers.

Guess I'll just keep my primer inventory at the 10-20 thousand mark and hope they last till I die.

That guy REALLY has a lot of time on his hands. Reminds me back in the 50s when you could buy rebuilt sparkplugs for a quarter.:D

I think it'd be more time efficient to have equipment machined to draw primer cups and learn how to make primer compound, then recycle primer anvils.

Or maybe get a part time (2nd) job, forget about shooting/reloading for awhile, and use the income to pay for a lifetime supply of factory primers.

I would assume that this guy just likes to tinker with things and wanted to see if it would really work... At least that's what I'm hoping.

I tried the same thing.

It ain't easy, but it sure is fun going to the range with 10 45ACP's that took you a total 6 hours to make.

Not as much fun when only 5/10 actually go off, the rest were severe hangfires BUT HEY. I had a good time making them.

I too am guilty of making my own primers.
It was long ago and Berdan primers were unobtainium, I just wanted to see if it was possible.

I used the tip portion of "strike anywhere" matches.
If you discount the "flintlock" like ignition delay, they were 100% reliable if used promptly.

Even sealed with shellac they'd turn themselves and the primer cup into green munge after a month or two.
