Hello,
Maybe someone can help me in identifying a memory. It was a Remington in .22, very fancy stock and fore end. A little engraving, beautiful blue. I have tried to identify it before with no luck. Purchased in the mid 70's used. Gorgeous rifle.
I seem to recall something like a model 531, 537 or maybe not...
Thanks

^That was my guess as well, but didn't Remington also turn out a pretty fancy slide action round then?
I seem to remember a friend of mines dad having an older pump Remington with a scroll engraved reciever and high grade gloss wood....under all the rust

Howdy NIGHTLORD40K,
Well, that may be it !!! I seem to recall that the fore end cap was a lighter wood and not ebony.... But IIRC the action appears the same.
Thanks for the information. Did a search on the 541 online and came across the model I believe it was a 541S Custom Sporter. A tick on the long list of firearms I should never have gotten rid of. What was I thinking?

I saw one 541 with a Birdseye Maple stock that was the prettiest .22 LR rifle I'd ever seen. It was just too much money for me back then. Found this picture of a stock that just sold on a website (sold for $160):

Got a 541,dang nice.Have had it for a looooong time.

The scope is an old Burris 4X post reticle.Back when big fat objectives and see to the moon X's became fashionable..... it was in this very well "shopped",big gunstore. In the corner of a display case, dwarfed by all these big honking scopes, there sat this little Burris.

I asked the guy( he'd worked there for years, seen it all, heard it all) to see it and what the story was.He said it was as new, came in on a trade in and had sat there for several years gathering dust. 40$ later and some Redfield mounts,it's never been off my 541. I told him what it was going on,he understood completely.

Great small game rig.We shoot it a little at beer cans but,it's a kinda too nice for that. It's surgical acc and "field manners" means it deserves to be out hunting. It's the skinny, sporter brrl.

I have a 541-T that I bought brand new from a local hardware store. Remember when hardware stores commonly sold guns and ammo? Anyway, it's been a good rifle and for a long time was the most accurate 22 that I owned, easily out shooting the Ruger 77/22, 10/22 and Marlin 60 that I also had years ago... For years It had a Leupold 4x Rimfire Special scope on it. Now it has some large 24x target scope. I think I'm going to go back to the little Leupold.
