B2061F9C-42FF-4516-BD56-7D2F8BDD4AF0.jpeg I had a great morning! Have been looking for an autoloader shotgun to use for skeet and sporties… have been doing great with my 870 but struggle on doubles the littlest bit.

I found a Remington 1100 “competition” model that takes 2 3/4 only. Has a 30 inch barrel and came with a nice case. Was on a big sale for 699 at the LGS.

Here’s my question… it has a full choke in it now, I usually run a IC in my 870 but I think that has a 26 inch barrel. Given that this one has a 30 inch barrel should I run skeet choke for skeet and sporties?

Part of the fun of sporting clays is picking which choke to use at each station.
Some guys obsess with it.
You can always use the old "ahh, I had the wrong choke in this time....". Lol
I have an 1100 sporting clays.
An excellent shotgun!
BTW, an excellent trap gun as well. My #1 son broke his first 25 straight, followed immediately by his second 25 straight (50x50) with mine at the Illinois state shoot in about 2015....
Best wishes

I have a 870 with a 30” ModTrap barrel for trap and a 26” Skeet barrel for skeet and sporting clays. That skeet barrel has worked great for sporting clays when I use it, but the course I shoot is close up shooting. The skeet barrel also is great for bird hunting.

Skeet is a great choke....2pts of construction over cylinder bore iirc.
A 26" skeet barrel on an 1100 was my quail gun for decades.

Be aware that the 1100 Competition uses Pro Bore chokes, not RemChokes. My 1100 Competition Synthetic came with every choke except IM. I'd use the Skeet choke for Skeet, and Mod. for Sporties but that's just my preference. You got a good deal on your 1100 Competition!

I took it out today and it outshot me! Very happy. Question about shells, it says 2 3/4 only on the side…. Would it be bad to shoot higher velocity target loads out? Something like 1300 fps ? Would hate to beet up the gun!

Don't go any higher than that. I took my Competition Synthetic pheasant hunting, and used Remington Nitro Clays (1 1/8 oz. 7 1/2's at 1300) and they dropped the pheasants just fine.
