Click, click, click... Three shells ejected.. Not a one of them had a dent in the primer. What's up with that?

Firing pin gone? I just got the gun from my dad, first time I tried to fire it. Never owned an 1100 before. Looks like I am going to be doing some disassembly sooner than later.

You think he'd have mentioned something about it :banghead:

Oh well, the clicks sounded healthy

I don't think it was a spring. That CLICK sounded real healthy. I'm thinking the old man took the pin out of it as some kind of wierdo safety measure and forgot that he did it. He getting a touch on the old side.

I'll have to take a look I reckon.

Definately a firing pin situation.

I stuck a round toothpick into the hole in the face of the bolt until it bottomed out then pull the trigger.

The toothpick was not forced out of the bolt... It moved backwards, deeper into the bolt. Never expected that! Hahaha.

The firing pin spring holds the pin back so the hammer hits it. Otherwise the hammer can just hit the bolt/buffer and no ignition happens. Taking the firing pin out is not a simple 5 minute deal. Take the bolt out and you can look in the bottom and see the firing pin and spring.

My brother did this to my dads long guns and pistols at home when dad started to get a lil odd. So he took all the firing pins out, one was a Model 1100 and it does give a pure healthy click w/o the pin. My brother misplaced the bag of firing pins, so I was left with trying to find replacements for all the pieces. The model 1100 firing pin is not at all that hard to replace.

Regards,
Mike

Actually, it's quite easy to remove and/or replace the firing pin in an 1100 Remington.

First, remove the bolt assembly from the gun. Then punch out the firing pin retaining pin which is located near the rear of the bolt. Then the firing pin and spring just slide out.
