I've read in places that soft points will not cycle well in an autoloader. I found some of these bullets, and I was wondering if anyone has tried them through an auto-loader. Also, will does anybody know how they would work for deer?

I've run the 180s through my .308 DPMS AP-4 with no problems. I did some factory first, and actually just loaded up 200 of them about an hour ago to shoot through it, and my M1A. The feed ramp leaves a skid mark on the tip, but I've never had a problem feeding or re-feeding them in with the slight marring.

You're fine, forget about it and go shoot!!

Soft points can build up lead in the feed ramps. At first it will cycle fine, but after some round count, it might start having a build up causing feed issues. I had this issue in a 5.56 AR with soft points. I caught it early so no real issue. Just clean the feed ramps regularly.

This may sound like a stupid question, but the feed ramp is in the mag right?

You may be thinking of the follower. The feed ramps are on the barrel extension. They're the scalloped areas that guide the bullet into the chamber.

I've shot the Core-lokts through the AP4, LR308, and the TAC-20 with no problems. I have an AP4 in 223/556 but I've never got a box in 223 to test function and reliability in it.

I have issues shooting any soft point bullet in my Lilja barreled AR-10. The lead softpoint gets shaved off and pieces of lead get jammed between bolt and breech preventing the bolt from fully closing after 3-5 rounds. I have also found lead chunks in my FCG and buffer tube. I think success or lack of will be an individual characteristic of your rifle. If it works it works essentially. Load up a round and manually extract it and inspect bullet and chamber.

I've run a few 180gr PSPs through my LR308 without any problem. For hunting I would say they would be perfectly fine, especially considering the low volume of shooting you will be doing. That said all my handloads are either ballistic tip or FMJ. I use Hornady 180gr SSTs for my hunting needs. Plus, I really do think the heavier ammo in the 16" barrel works much better.

I am an AR10 person, got Armalites, Bushmaster, DPMS....all I shoot is Corelokts...don't mess with cheap ammo, that Russian steel case crap. Remington,Hornady, Privi Partizan is about all I shot in my weapons and they work really good. they are too expensive a firearm to use cheap ammo in.
