Hi, All:
I have been looking around all the forums, and in books, to find pictures of cased Remington revolver sets. I have found hundreds of pictures of cased Colt sets, but not one picture of a cased Remington. I want to build a presintation case for my 1858 Rem. New Army, and need to know what the origonal cases looked like if they did exist, and what origonal accessories were used with them. I have built cases for some of my Colts, but now want to build one for my Rem. Can anyone help me find pictures of cased Rem. revolvers?
Thanks.

Remington built some cases “in-house,” but most were purchased from local cabinetmakers. This one was typical of the Civil War period.

Across the front you should see a cleaning rod with a brass head. Behind it is a box (or perhaps 2 boxes) of .44 paper cartridges. To the right of those, below the powder flask you can just see a combination tool (nipple wrench and screw driver). To the right and under the flask is a bullet mold, and in the upper/right corner a tin of percussion caps. The revolver is a “New Army” model in mint condition.

This provided everything necessary to load the revolver, or disassemble it for cleaning. In addition, a more elaborate came might have a space for a few cast bullet and balls, and/or spare parts, such as an extra hand, cylinder bolt, bolt & trigger spring and a few screws.

IIRC, Dixie Gun Works has one. I used one for years.

That being said, you might want to build your own and tailor it to your specific loadout, so that you have everything you need in one box with the possible exception of the spotting scope. I normally use a Dockosil case, and have a fairly specific arrangement that carries everything but my spotting scope and staple gun.

I have a picture of an original Remington case, with the New Army revolver and acessories. Unfortunately I am having trouble getting it to link to this thread. As alternative I will e-mail you the picture later today, as that is more likely to work. :cuss:
