For some reason I've got a hankering to try one of the lower end 1911's. Given a choice I would prefer a US Pistol (and I am not willing to give Springfield my money). The LGS has some new 1911 R1 Two-Tone Talo Pistols for $499.99. What's the consenses on these pistols? I already know about the cast frame.

PS I really need a 1911. I only have 6 right now...

I don't own one, never shot one, but I've handled one. Fit and finish seemed pretty good, and the reviews I've read have been pretty uniformly positive. I don't know anything about the Talo editions, but that price seems pretty good.

Talo Edition R1 is just a standard R1 black oxide carbon frame with the stainless slide. I just mentioned it because it isn't in the catalog if someone went looking for the Two Tone.

I’ve handled a few. Fit and finish are good, barrel lug lockup not so much, but then again there’s really not a production gun out there that’s got lug lockup right anyway. I think the price point is perfect, and I’ve not read any negative reviews. Go for it. I mean, we here want to help you spend your hard earned money on your addiction...er, I mean hobby.

Had a basic R1, still have a R1 enhanced double stack. Both are/were reliable and accurate with good triggers. The basic R1, in particular, was very accurate.

Fit and finish were pretty good, both reasonably tight. My R1 enhanced gets carried some in the field and the finish is not very sturdy, not Kimpro bad, but pretty easy to wear off in Kydex.

I have the R1S and have loved it. I can’t add too much to what the others said. Very accurate and reliable, the mags that came with mine were one good one a little shady. I highly recommend.

I had one, traded it for work done on my bike. I have nothing bad to say about it.

Excellent fit & finish on mine and it shot where I pointed it. No failures. Gifted it to my son for Christmas.
I paid $399 for it after a cash rebate several years ago. If they run a new promo like that, I’ll buy another one.

Looked at one some years back mainly for use as a range gun and part time home defense. Was impressed by the overall fit and finish and had a decent trigger as well.

My best friend has one, I've shot it often, as he has several 1911's of mine over the years. Good gun, fits your criteria well. The only one of his I like better is his Dad's old Lightweight Commander in 9mm.
