I have a Remington 600 chambered for 6.5 Remington Magnum. Since it's an obsolete caliber I would like to rebarrel it to some that's not unobtainable for brass. Looking for suggestions, seems like the bolt face may be a problem. Thanks in advance. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You're most likely going to be stuck with a magnum "something" due to the bolt face. The new short fat magnums all have a larger rim, so you might sill end up needing some bolt work to re-barrel to one of those. You could get a new bolt, but they're not exactly cheap:

Honestly the 600s command a premium and you may well be better off selling it and getting what you want.

Now, IF you want to stick with the 6.5RM, brass is easily formed using one of the belted magnums. I make .350RM brass from 7mm RM brass using a cheap chop saw, cheap jig and a .350RM form die.

Agreed, after some research I'm most likely gonna leave it be. I do have some brass for it. Any thoughts on putting a supressor on it? It's godawful loud.

You'd have to check with a smith. This issue I foresee is the 600s came with pretty thin barrels, hence the rib to make it look thicker. There might not be enough there to turn down, thread and have enough of a shoulder for a supressor. Plus, you'd have the rail and front sight to remove, not a big deal really. Then there's the whole issue of adding weight to the front of the pencil thin barrel.

Again, you could easily sell it and probably have the funds to buy what you really want. They have hit collectors status, so it's sort of a shame to modify it.

Agreed, this is something that was passed along to me after a death in the family. Was trying to come up with a way to give it a second lease on usefulness. It's a cool little rifle and caliber, but finding brass for it is a problem.

An external suppressor adaptor can be added by MachIVshooter . Any cartridge can be reloaded for optimum suppression. He makes one that will hold up to full factory loads for that 6.5 mag . He could also turn the whole rifle into an internally suppressed carbine that would be over the top kewl IMHO .

You might try calling Numrich Gun Parts or Pacific Tool and Gage. I would like to have a Rem. 600 in cal. .308 with a 20" or 22" barrel

The bolt would have to be changed to go from 6.5 Remington Magnum to .308 Winchester. Also it would likely have feeding problems as the feed rails are proportioned for the fatter cartridge.

Personally I'd shoot it as is, sell it as is, or rebarrel to another short action magnum cartridge, but with a longer barrel.

Good Luck

OP,

What did you decide to do??

IF it helps keep it as is, I can at least form some .350RM brass that you can neck down into 6.5RM.

I'm already set up to do it and based on how long the brass lasts my stuff sits idle most of the time. Just send me some 7mm Rem Mag and I'll anneal it and turn it into .350RM and send it back.
