another tar heel checking in...

i have a new cdl in 7-08mm, and i think it's great. action runs sweet, especially since i had my youngest son recycle it about a thousand times. :)

i've only fired it at paper, and only at 50 yds, but with with federal fusion 140 grainers, it puts three touching consistently.

if the old models are better, they are amazing firearms...

oh, and i'm sure you know this, in the old north state, unless you are shooting bean fields, you won't have many shots over 120 yds.

I had two 700's, one in .243 and one in 30-06. One was a hand me down manufactured in 1968 and the other was actually a Kmart special bought in around 1995. Both were phenomenal guns and killed a lot of deer before someone stole them. The .243 had very little kick but the 30-06 was a bear to shoot at the range.

I looked at the 700's a couple of years ago as a new rifle and was completely unimpressed with what I saw. I did not shoot any of the guns but they looked and felt cheap so I did not buy one. I went with the Savage instead and have been very happy.

Taget or hunting? What range? What quarry?

I've got a .243 Rem 700 that is just as accurate and reliable as my Tikka and my Savage.

He has already made his choice and purchased a rifle 3 days ago. See post #16.
