My son just called me last night and mentioned a blurb on TV that talked about a problem with some Remington 700's that has been known to the company for 40-50 years but it still persists.

The show had video of a guy that had a loaded 700 sitting in a rest and when he just barely touched the bolt, the gun discharged! I'm not talking about working the bolt.... I'm saying that he just hardly touched it. :what:

The show went on to say that they had proof that Remington knew about this back in the 60's but decided not to do a redesign.

Has anyone heard of this problem?

My son called because I had an accidental discharge 5-6 years ago while trying to load my hunting rifle (a 1969-70 Rem. 700) in pitch black conditions while sitting in my deer stand.

Mods : I just noticed that there is already a thread on this subject and it's active. How do I delete this thread?

Simple lack of care and cleaning. Plus anti-gun NBC trying to make them sound dangerous.

I have used a couple M-700s for years and never had a problem. Although I have had problems with NBC.
