i just picked up this rifle online and shipped for 600 bucks to replace my savage that i had an unfortunate mishap with. got my rail and bipod and scope mounted on it and the stock is crappy. ive been looking at stocks to buy but i cannt figure if its an adl or a bdl to replace it with. it has the hindged floorplate on it and the mark x trigger. and help would be awesome. im looking for a wood replacement and cant get it figured out and stockys doesnt show well enough pics to determine.

why is it then that when i look at some of the bdl stocks they have a blind mag. then i google sps and it will say both the blind mag and the hinged floorplate?? should have bought another savage rifle. remington is already giving me fits and i havent even shot it yet.

if you think you're having fits now, just wait until you get it to the range. my cousin bought the same rifle and initially it shot about 1.75 MOA. he took it to his 'smith who bedded it, re-reamed the too tight chamber, squared the lugs, re-crowned the barrel and added a muzzle brake and now it's all the way down to a 1.5 MOA gun. :/

he bought it to be a 600 yard deer gun, but it's been relegated to a 300 yard elk gun now.

The OPs 700 may be one of the shooters. As near as I can tell, discounting the anger of those who bought non-shooter 700s, it's about a 50-50 chance a new 700 SPS/LTR/SPS-T/V (essentially any non LE/Mil 700) will not have QA issues and will shoot sub MOA. So he may be golden.

Of course ... he could have bought a Savage, Howa, T/C or Weatherby and stood a 98% chance of a good one. ANd for less money with some models. :D

Here are four links to Stocky's Stocks for wood or laminated stocks. They have good products at good prices.

For my part, I have had expensive rifles that barely kept on target at 100 yards, because the barrel was out-of-round, and was threaded onto the action cockeyed. I've had inexpensive rifles that shot sub-MOA with factory loads. Those quality-control issues all aside, if you are looking to transform this into a consistently accurate shooter, I would be looking to a Bell & Carlson or HS Precision aluminum-blocked stock. Here are five links to Bell & Carlson and HS Precision stocks.

this is true Snakum. i bought an SPS Varmint in .308 at the same time, re-stocked it and it's a sweet shooter. i guess i got lucky and he got unlucky. it was still a waste of $600 plus 'smith fees for him though. then again, Remington only guarantees 1.5 MOA from their rifles, save for the 700P.
