I just ordered an Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308, and I am looking to get some rings and a mount for optics. Is this model rifle a short action or long action? Forgive me if this is a stupid question, as I am new to bolt-guns.
I have a picatinny rail I just removed from my M700 SPS Tactical in .308 Win. I replaced it with a Ferrill 20 MOA only, because my other short actions all have Ferrill rail bases. If you're interested in the base and Leupold rings, PM me. I could get them to you for $50.00. They were bought about Nov 01 (past deer season), and they sell for about $124.00 combined.
Simply because Remington does not label them as such does not change their dimensions. The dimensions of a Remington700 "Short-Action" are far more similar to actions traditionally labelled "medium-action" by other gun makers. See sako, thompson-center, sauer, etc.
Remington IIRC does make 3 action lengths, including a shorter "short-action" for varmint calibers. I do not know what they call this action.
