I have inherited a Remington 870 Wingmaster made sometime between 1950 and 1953. The firing pin broke on a dry fire about twenty seven years ago and has never been removed - until now. I ordered a new firing pin and received it today, but the replacement appears to be shorter in length than the original pin. Specifically, the older pin on aft shank behind the notched-out section is longer and has tapered/rounded edges on aft side. The new pins are flat-ended and have shorter aft shanks. Please excuse my lack of gunsmith terminology. Does anyone know if there were different bolts or firing pins produced for early models, and if so, how to obtain replacement firing pins? I compared three different vendor websites with photos of the newer model 870 firing pins, and they all match what I received today from Midwayusa.
