I haven't been on for a while, but I've been having the urge to fix a long range rifle with M40 influenced aesthetics. I'm thinking 7mm mag or 300 mag for possible caliber choices. I really want to just get a complete Rem. 700 action/trigger assembly, so I can find a barrel and stock to fit my liking. Anybody know where I can pick one up? I've looked and searched and so on, but can't find a thing. Thanks.

the remington will be easier and cheaper.

the easiest and cheapest way to accomplish what you want is to find a donor rifle, preferably one that is already chambered to your liking so you will have minimal bolt face and mag work to do to make it function. donor rifles usually are beat to hell guns picked up cheap at auctions, or whatever. rust is ok. look to spend around $300 or less.

order your barrel from wherever you want. order the stock from mcmillan at the same time. it will take 3-5 months to get the pipe and stock in. order your trigger, too. take all the pieces to your 'smith, and have the rifle built - take your unused extras and sell 'em. barrel will bring ~$15-30, stock ~$45, trigger ~$20...

have fun!

I was hoping I could get the action seperate. Oh well. $300 really for a used a model 700 in rough shape? I can get a brand new one at Wal-Mart for $325.

Give Brownells a call 1-800-741-0015. I`m pretty sure they offer Rem 700 actions only. I didn`t see them though in a quick peek at their web site. You will need a FFL to buy one I believe though, they are concidered a "rifle" for legal purposes.

Is the Wal Mart rifle one with the hinged floorplate, in a magnum caliber? I'll venture a guess that it isn't. You'll want a BDL-style action with the hinged floorplate, trust me. And, you're going to want to start with a magnum bolt face, too.

Here's a source for Remington actions. Note: these are actions only, with no bottom metal or recoil lugs. http://www.varminthunters.com/greatscott/index.html

I think finding the whole gun used and using what you want is going to be the cheapest route. Thats what I am looking for a 700 BDL in LH Magnum action.
Done quite a bit of price checking and my conclusions are buying the whole enchilada is the way to go.

I just looked at their site. It appears to be a 700 SPS. I don't see how though considering the msrp is a tad over $600 on their site. They had one in synthetic and one in camo and that's all that appears to be on their site with those. I'll check it out monday and see for sure what it is.

Edit: And the guy said he had it in 7mm mag.

Some walmarts are still carrying the Remington 700 ADL, they are no longer listed on remington's website but for $325 thats probably what it is. If all you need is the action then that could be the way to go, the floorplate isnt part of the action and you can find them fairly cheap from Ebay and other places.
