Anyone own one of these dehumidifiers?
I bought one Saturday and have a few questions.
Having just had my Amsec BF6636 installed in my home this past Friday I left the safe door open all night long to allow the gun safes interior to equalize to my homes temperature and humidity level.
On my old Amsec I used a couple of fairly large dessicant bags inside the safe and have never had humidity issues and my digital hygrometer indicates the humidity level generally in the high 50 percent to lower 60 per cent range so the bags coupled with modern central air and heat in a home obviously were working.
Anyway I bought because it can supposedly be monitored by the little window that changes color and last according to Remington the unit should last about ten years.
The unit is sealed in plastic wrap I suppose so it does not gather humidity before it is to be used.
However mine was not blue in color(it was quite brown) and the instructions were somewhat vague about this.
So I plugged it in the wall outlet and sure enough the next morning the color window was showing bright blue indicating it was fully charged.
I probably had been charging it 10 hours or so.
One of my questions is did yours have to be charged before usage?
After a few hours of charging I was thinking mine was defective because there had not been any change to the color so i have to think perhaps mine had sat on the shelf a long time and possibly lost it's charge.
The instructions mention absolutely nothing of having to precharge the device.
The instructions say the charge should last 30-60 days,so for those of you that use one has this been your example?
Anyway I thought some of you may have something to say about this product.

Is this like the version bearing the Cabela's name as well? I have one - the 2-3 hours they say to recharge is BS, IME. It has always taken 2-3 TIMES that amount of time. I have that, two big dessicant boxes AND a golden rod here in FL. About every two months, that and the dessicant get a time out - either in the outlet or the oven

One Ounce, you have to plug this brand into a wall plug for 10-12 hours to recharge it.
After a few hours of it charging it's actually clamy to the touch as it is releasing it's soaked up moisture.
Very warm as well, but according to the instructions, this is normal.
As a matter of fact i opened the safe Wednesday night and it already needed charging again even though i put it in Sunday morning fully charged!
Thirsty little devil it is.
I am pretty sure these things are made by Eva-Dry as they look identical.
I am ordering the bigger Eva-Dry 500 model today to see if that helps keep the humidity level down.
Perhaps a safe the size of my new BF in the Gulf Coast climate needs two of these things to drink up the moisture.
Checked my hygrometer yesterday when i put the fully charged dehumidifier back inside the safe and it was reading 61 per cent.
