How much would y'all pay for a new old stock Remington 870 12ga barrel? I have a fully rifled 12ga 870 and I'm looking for a smooth bore barrel with Rem choke threads for using buck/birdshot and I saw a guy at a gun show last month that had a couple for $260!!! That's crazy as I can get a new basic 870 for like 380 bucks plus shipping through dads FFL so why wouldn't I just get that? Just wondering if y'all have seen crazy prices for 870 barrels or not in your area. I'm probably going to go with the better value and just get another 870 eventually.

Was recently looking for a short barrel for mine and used prices started around $175 (before tax & shipping).
Managed to find a parts gun for significantly less money and got much more than just a barrel...

Hastings and Mossberg used to make replacement barrels for Remington's that were cheaper. I don't know if they still do. Once when I wanted a slug barrel for a Remington, I just bought a Mossberg 500 instead for the same price. I think CDNN has a sale on barrels.

You know, I saw Chattanooga had a Mossberg 590 with the detachable mags for a reasonable price also. How do you like Mossberg vs Remington. I do like my rifled 870 a lot so idk how much of a difference there really is between them except for the safety position and the mag well on the 590.

Ebay. Carlson's.
The most I ever paid face to face, in a gun store for any Remington barrel, 870, 1100 or 11-87, was $175. Just recently, a rifled 870 for $125, rifled 1100 for $150. Keep looking.

Right now two 870 barrels by Carlson on ebay, one riot length buy it now $85, one 28": choke tubed $95. OOPS, not Carlson, but Target Sports. I know you said OEM but that puts a challenge if you want "economical.

riot length?? I'm checking that out right now! Oh I see those are made in China? That's a hard pass from me sorry... I thought I'd seen a Mossberg made barrel somewhere cheap but idk.

At one time it was worth the effort to have multiple barrels for some shotguns. Any more you're probably better off just buying another gun.

Remington 870's have a steel receiver, Mossberg 500's is aluminum. The Remington is heavier and feels more solid. The safety on a 500 can come loose and fail. They fit about the same. Both are well tested reliable shotguns. I prefer the 870 as stronger but I like the 500's too.

Hastings still does, Mossberg ones still pop up here and there.

I'm a bit of a luddite, I know. I have a bucket in the corner where my extra barrels reside. 870, rifled, imp. Cyl., mod, mod trap, full, riot, and a couple of express take-offs with Rem Chokes. Same with 1100s. it would be easier with tubed guns but I started my 870 life in the early sixties.
Don't know where you live but chances are there is a shop with a barrel or two sitting in the corner that could be bargained for. Requiring tubes makes it tougher.

Picked up a 870 skeet barrel for $125 at a LGS. Used it for sporting clays and it worked great. I also got two 20ga standard barrels, one plain for $80 and a ribbed one for $125. I don’t think they did their research.
