Remington Phoenix Wish List

I DO have a specific configuration I'd like to see as well.

A 700 with a 26" heavy, fluted, barrel either parkerized or that black PVD finish, maybe with 5R rifling. Kind of like a current gen Sendero, but parked or coated like the old police 700s and the M24.

Kind of want another chance at "the one that got away". Back in '96 my first "I bought myself" rifle was almost a 700 in that config, Parked, 26" fluted heavy barrel, H-S Precision stock, for about $100 more than the Savage i was eyeing as a backup plan. wound up getting the money together a few days late and it sold before i could grab it. called Remington to see if they could tell me what model to request through the local shop(s), and was told that there was no such non-custom model, they had no record available of how such a configuration came to be, and that the gun was likely one of three things
  • an overrun from some agency, training facility, or distributor's custom order for a non-stainless Sendero/Fluted 700P
  • a one off custom that fell through (least likely)
  • an end of fiscal year "parts bin Frankenstein" (MOST likely)
And that if i really wanted that config they could transfer me to the Custom shop, and the starting price would be $$$$...

Yeah, so i bought a Savage that year.

You jogged my memory @Legionnaire, I have a Remington 7600 pump action rifle in 243 Winchester with plastic furniture and 22" barrel I picked up a while back. My youngest nephew was expressing interest in marksmanship and hunting but suddenly that stopped, no doubt due to my sister, his mother, not liking anything to do with guns. So it's been sitting quietly. My brother's youngest daughter is now expressing interest so it'll be hers to try out and if she's happy with everything keep at some point. I really don't have any complaints regarding that 7600. I'd also picked up a 18.5" barrel in 308 Winchester when I thought of converting it to a hog gun.

ETA: I really don't have any complaints regarding that 7600 after I had a Timney trigger parts kit installed and adjusted to 2.5 lbs.

I liked where they were heading with the pistol and braced 700's.

I would love a lightweight hunting pistol that could fit in a backpack. Right now, that's dominated by ARs, but a 5 pound scoped bolt pistol shouldn't be too hard to do
Savage did it some time ago with their Stryker pistol. My guess is there just wasn't enough of a market for bolt action pistols.

I had no idea Savage did a bolt pistol.

I know Remington had one in the 80's and 90's, I think, but I would have been born then so clearly I wasn't in the market.

I'm just glad they made a comeback, same goes for the Ruger Charger.

I love rifles in pistol form.
