I am really wanting to build a CZ 527 on the .20 VarTarg cartridge but the lack of factory ammo and brass is frustrating. Then all of a sudden their is some hope at the end of the tunnnel...but I thought I would ask for some help from fellow THR's.

This morning I saw on the Remington web site that they are taking a poll on what cartridge they should release or reintroduce; 17AH, 20vartarg, 6x45, 22br.

I personally would love to see the .20 VarTarg as it looks to be one of the most cost effective varminting/targeting small caliber centerfire rounds. (Sadly no one makes brass or ammo yet so you have to roll your own...almost literally.

It is simply a necked down .221 Fireball to .20. You then have the plethora of all the bullet selection of all those for the .204 Ruger. (Which I have and love) but it only uses 15-18 grn powder and pushes 3800 fps. I.e no barrel burn and 30-40 consecutive shots are possible without barrel heating or inaccuracy do to it. Anyway, take a peak and vote and if you don't have a dog in the fight, please vote VarTarg. :D

Thx so much!

I still want a line of standard length beltless magnums. Remington could easily do it with their RUM case, and Ruger could easily do it with their .375 Ruger case, but both companies are content to feed from Winchester's crumbs off the short magnum table.

Remington should have learned a lesson decades ago: when you see a demand for something that is currently only met by expensive custom or semi-custom rifles and ammunition, the market is ripe for a large manufacture to introduce that sort of performance in a cheaper commercially available rifle. For example, they saw that the belted 7mm magnum was only met by the 7mm Weatherby and 7x61 Sharpe and Hart, and introduced the 7mm Rem Mag in the M700. The rest is history.

When you're the second on the bandwagon, the rewards are less lucrative. For example, regardless of who originated the idea, Winchester introduced their WSM lineup first, and Remington quickly following with their RSAUM line was too little and too late. Not nearly as successful as being the first.

Why they can't apply these lessons by taking note of the fact that a standard length beltless magnum can currently only be met with expensive Dakota or Lazzeroni magnums is beyond me.

Maybe I am the only one that wants such a thing. Maybe there really is enough indication in the market for Ruger to feel that even with Remington's lack of success, there is more of a market for a third or fourth short action magnum line-up than the first commercially available standard length magnum line-up. I don't know.

But sure, I'll vote for your precious .20-whatever...

I voted for the 6x45...

I was surprised it came out on top...
