i recently ended up with a sportsman48 and i'm in need of a charging handel. Does anyone know of anyone online that stocks them? I've tried midway, numrich and brownells with no luck.

Is it the same part as an 1100 or other model?

I plan to call them in the morning just thought i'd do a little parts hunting tonite. This gun was/is a wreck, totally seized up. So far i've soaked it in penetrating oil and freed it up, just needs a good scrubbing and oiling now. I even fired it tonite. Happy to say the charging handel is the only part that needs repacing.

Not bad for a 10 dollar gun.

The part you need is a operating slide Part no. 64 Price 3.65. Old parts list1966. Mod. 11 & Sportsman are identical, except Sportsman is a 3 shot. If you can find a Browning A. 5 to compare, it may be the same. Great shotgun, almost impossible to wear out. Hope this helps. James

I can say with almost absolute certainty he MEANT to say, the model 11-48 and the Sportsman 48 are identical except for the capacity.

At least, that's what he SHOULD have meant to say! :D

(A Remington Model 11 is a wee bit different...!)

Current 1100 handle will work if you can't find the parts James mentioned. Part # 91197. This is held in by a plunger so if you order online you probably want to make sure this isn't missing/broken first to save another order.

That little plunger is like a detent ball inset into the bolt slide. It can get stuck. Very, very stuck. I've replaced my slide twice and on the second one the ball stuck. I tried to pop it loose with a punch and blew the ball and spring right out the back side of the slide casting! :fire:

Sam, good point, ball is a good description. Plunger I guess could sound misleading. First detail strip I did on my 11-48 wasn't fun. Its one that I had to do some studying on... I guess if you're going to have an out of the ordinary action (recoiling barrel) it's bound to have some unique parts. Add that to it being 60 years old and that makes things interesting when it comes to parts. Luckily some of the wear parts swap out with the 870 and 1100.

On the 11, the only major thing the 11-48 and Sportsman share is the recoil system.
