For years I've heard folks complaining about Remington products suffering from quality issues. I have never owned a Remington product besides this one. I toured the Ilion facility a number of years ago and can say that I'm amazed their quality hasn't suffered for the last 100 years. Certainly not the most efficient plant. Six stories and a full square block with no discernible production flow. How they keep track of anything in this plant is beyond me. I think their AL facility has likely adopted modern mfg practices with proper quality procedures. We sell them CMM's and other measurement instruments (ZEISS), so that's a good sign. What I know for sure, though, is that this firearm was made in Ilion, NY, and I've put 500 rounds down range through it. Everything from low brass 7-1/2 to full boat OO buck and magnum slugs. Not a single malfunction. Some think of this firearm as a novelty. Take my assurance that with the addition of a brace, this firearm is handy, reliable, and cruelly efficient. Everything one needs from a home defense system. Unfortunately, it was tragically lost in a recent boating accident.

Anyone here have a different experience with the reliability of the Tac-13 or the Versa Max in general? The porting system really is brilliant. IMHO it really does reduce felt recoil and helps ensure low brass cycling.

Uh...I have to edit this and say I do have another Remington product - and it's a beauty. A 700 Gen 1 Sendero in .270 bought new in the early 90's. Slipped my mind. And please don't talk smack about my Sendero...'cause them's fightin' words...;)

Looks damn nice with the brace. When these hit I had wondered about reliability with a semi but every thing I have watched of people testing them so far they seemed great.

I find the idea of the Tac 13 to make more sense than the Tac 14. You really can't hold and aim the stumpy things. I mean, you can, but not like a gun with a stock. I would think several rounds as fast as you can squeeze the trigger would make for a decent HD Street Sweeper.

I take it you mean with the brace on? Yes they (braces) are very nice. Sadly the Fed's will most likely come after them before long. I will miss them when we have to stop.

That is the only shotgun with a brace I'd even consider firing. The Versa Max is an excellent design, very sturdy, a definite improvement over the 1100/11-87. They are a popular duck gun around here, as they are less expensive than the comparable Berettas and Benellis, and many (like myself) are life-long Remington fans. If I still duck hunted, I'd have one, and I have been trying to justify the cost of a braced TAC-13, but I already have an Ithaca 37 that fills the role of HD gun well.

I'm a big guy and firing it fast with the bird's head grip is OK, I guess. I haven't spent time over the years training firing from the hip so wouldn't want to rely on this lack of skill unless it was last option stuff. The brace is much handier for me. Regarding the ATF changing their minds on braces - I imagine it's possible, especially with activist wack-jobs running the place. Here are a couple of letters specifically regarding the brace I purchased. Most recent dated 2017.

The brace's came about do in large part to them just not wanting to fight it. The sad part is many gun owners do not own one, do not even know what they are, and will not care. As always happens when the law makers go after something many gun people if they do not have one, just don't care. My state passed a law making even the Ruger 10/22 an "assault weapon". Now there is a 10 business day wait to buy one. Most had no clue it was on the ballot, had no clue it became law until they went to buy another .22. Sad to watch.
