This is a feedback and review centric thread. I will update the following with my opinions once I get the holster and would also like to hear back from anyone who has experience with the Remora holster.

I recently ordered (two days ago) a Remora holster for my PM9. It should arrive today or tomorrow. This decision came after spending a few months carrying the gun.

Up until now, I'd been using my leather IWB P45 holster for the PM9 to get a good idea of what I would want/need in a holster (holsters can be a sizable investment by themselves, right?). It wasn't a perfect fit but it did hold snugly since both guns have the same trigger guard and ejection port location. I was able to carry the PM9 with this holster either IWB or in the front pocket of some my cargo shorts with large pockets.

After "playing" with this configuration for a while I discovered that, in spite of how easy the PM9 is to carry, I still significantly preferred my full sized guns if my outfit allowed for them. That said, the PM9 still saw a lot of service time. What I found to be unique about the way I carried the PM9 when compared to my other guns was that the PM9 essentially got carried wherever I could fit it. Sometimes pocket, sometimes hip, sometimes appendix, sometimes cross draw... I even had it in the pocket of some swim trunks at one point.

On rare occasions, I would opt for pocket carry without holster in condition 3 (virtually useless condition to carry, by the way). This was amazing because the size of the gun really became hugely advantageous when the bulk of the leather holster was gone. As a full disclosure, I'm a little biased towards leather holsters. However, I found that my leather holster effectively doubled the thickness of the PM9. The leather holster reduces, and occasionally eliminates, the advantage of the PM9. Enter Remora...

I got sold on this design after watching a youtube review by someone with the screen tag "faliaphotography." Incidentally, I think she does a pretty good job of presenting practical information/reviews. If you want to see that review this link might work:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4izM0fiz6kk

Otherwise, just do a google search for "Remora Holster Review" and her video should pop up.

In short, the selling points are the "no clip" design, sticky material, ability to stick it or position it anywhere, thin profile, and left/right fitment with one holster (due to no clip). I haven't seen any decent reviews of the product aside from her video so I'm going to update this thread with my impressions once I get it and then in several weeks once I've given it adequate field time.

If you have experience with the Remora, go ahead and drop you insights here.

I'll keep you updated...

I have a Remora for my Walther PPS with Armalaser. One of the few holsters I could get to fit that combo.

I love mine. It's a bit thicker than I would like, but that's balanced by the fact that there's no additional thickness for a clip or other fastener. It stays pretty much where I put it, but over the course of a day of wear, it will tend to slip down just a bit. Readjust it once or twice a day (you usually have to when you use the restroom anyway) and you're good to go.

It's totally undetectable, in that your shirt is tucked in naturally on your waistband. I wear mine at 10 O'clock, and it just "disappears" the PPS, even under a fairly tight T-shirt.

Am going to see if I can get some of that material to use to better stabilize the wallet holster I use for my LCP, as well. May have to just order a larger Remora then disassemble it for the components. It's cheap enough to do that economically.

I give it a definite thumbs up!

I had one for a short time, then sent it back for a full refund including shipping. It sounded like a good idea, and for a lot of people it seems to work fine. But for me and some others, it didn't function as promised.

The first time I loaded my pistol in, and slid the holster in my pants, it promptly slid down my leg and exited on top of my foot. And this was without the magazine in the gun. I tried tighter pants, rougher fabric shirts, and other tricks without any improvement.

To their credit, Remora gave me a full refund, promptly, and without any hassle. I hope it works for you. :)

I got my Remora last week and it's not what I hoped for comfort wise. I found it stays in place as advertised but is much thicker and stiffer than I expected. I have more than my share of inexpensive IWB holsters and this is ( at least for me ) the most bulky and uncomfortable one I own.

I love my Remoras. I have one for my snubnose, one for the pocket pistol, my Dad has one for his snubnose, and any other gun I conceal I'll have one for. They are relatively local to me, being from FL, and I met the owner of the company at a gun show, great guy, and the holsters have held up more than 2 years at this point.

With an LCR or Taurus TCP and basketball shorts on (elastic waist, drawstring, etc) the guns don't move at all. I normally wear khaki shorts and with a belt that's not real tight, my steel snubnose doesn't move.

I like my Remoras, but they are not the be all, end all solution some make them out to be. They do a decent job IWB as long as your waist band isn't loose. Otherwise, the holster will slip. They are a bit bulky for pocket carry unless you have a pretty big pocket.

I like them and use them. Just don't expect perfection from them and you'll be good to go.

Initial Impressions

First of all, thanks to everyone who has posted here. Your opinions are valuable.

Second, I received the Remora yesterday and wanted to jot down my initial impressions.

Overall, I'm impressed. I think it's a pretty good little holster. It came in mid afternoon and I put it to use immediately. 4 hours IWB in a pair of cargo shorts with a belt and it didn't move. Later in the evening, I put IWB in my pajamas and it stayed put. Today, I have been wearing it in a pair of athletic shorts and it's not moving. We'll see how this holds up and I'll post a more detailed opinion in a few weeks.

Fit and finish meet expectations for a $25 holster. The quality is there but the attention to detail isn't 100%... and that's not a complaint, I'm just nitpicking because that's what I do. The PM9 fits the holster perfectly. Whole slide is captured by the holster. I attached some pictures of it.

One thing I noticed that I really like, as of right now, is that the holster does not pull my pants down. My other IWB holsters with a clip tend to pull on my pants regardless of how tight they are. This holster does not do that... it just sort of sits there. I can feel it, but it's not a dragging sensation. I simply do not feel the gun weight on my pants... if that makes sense???

Pocket carry with the PM9 is restricted to pants with larger pockets and I have not yet tried the holster in those pants. I did try it in the cargo shorts I was wearing but that particular pair has a small pocket opening which made drawing horribly ineffective. Not the holsters fault, I have hard time pulling my cell phone out of those pockets.

Again, overall, the holster seems to meet or exceed everything that Remora said it would be. I will post an update when I can offer a more educated and experienced opinion of the holster's form and function.

Sounds then like most holsters, some upsides and some downsides?
I was hoping the Remora was going to prove to be the holy grail of IWB holsters.
I have never carried IWB before since my efforts thus far have centered around the pocket carry of a Seecamp .380 or S&W M&P 340.

I too have a PM9 and have tried IWB around the house on a trial basis with an inexpensive Uncle Mikes. This was back in my FL life when shorts were almost a yeararound lifestyle. I found the PM a bit heavy for the pocket and the same with a 642 so I migrated to lighter handguns and slightly smaller calibers in lieu of the 9 and stuck with a Mika Roundcut for the J Frame and DeSantis Nemesis for the Seecamp.

BTW a Nemesis for a Kahr PM9 works exceedingly well for a J Frame.

At any rate I recently purchased a Boberg XR9s and based on my experience with the Kahr I think it is going to be too heavy for the pocket.

Did some research and the Remora Company was one of the craftsmen making holsters for Arne Bobergs novel 9.

It should be here any day so we will see how it works out.

I just got a Remora holster, hoping to use it for My Springfield XDs. Unfortunately, the Remora holster is way thicker than I ever expected. It pretty much doubles the size of the gun, totally negating its slimness. It makes me look like I have a dictionary shoved into my waistband. Mine will be going back for a refund.

It's back to carrying the PM9 in a "Gun Leather" thin suede holster for now. This was my 3rd attempt at a holster for the XDs with no luck so far.

I may not be thin enough or my pants loose enough for IWB if it's that thick. Since I haven't had any experience with IWB
to speak of, it
May not be for me.

I am thinking about an XDS next but it doesn't sound like he Remora is the way to go.

May have to stick with OWB, pocket and Maxpedition bag.

DAdams,
The XDs is great. I'm just having a hard time finding a holster that takes advantage of its thinness. My problem is I'm too thin, so any bulk under my belt is very noticeable. The PM9 carries effortlessly in my experience, but the XDs is just enough bigger to take a little more effort to conceal. I tried the Crossbreed style holsters, and they are just too wide and don't quite curve enough to properly conceal on me (and they don't stay put, always rotating too far back). Other holsters have leather that is way too thick, or big bulky clips that poke out. I was hoping the Remora would be perfect, but the material is just way too thick.

Finding the right holster seems to always be a frustrating and expensive process for me.

My Remora works great for my HK P7. Doesn't slip, and far more comfortable than any IWB I've owned. My Crossbreed Supertuck has sat unused in the drawer since I got my Remora.

@DAdams: I'm very interested in your experience with the Remora and the Boberg. I have a Boberg and have yet to get a holster for it.

Model 3BB Remora arrived today and I wore the holster and Boberg around for a couple hours. It has a very small partial sweat shield. The handgun to holster fit is very good and the construction also is well done. This material reminds me of wet suit material and is the same as the DeSantis Gunhide for my Seecamp LWS .380. The .380 material is thinner by about 50% as it is designed for the pocket.

Since I have never carried IWB with the exception of an Uncle Mike's with a clip and a BERSA BT .380 I don't have anything to compare it with.

The Boberg is .96 inches wide and with the holster on and everything snugged down I suspect the overall width is no more than 1.25. There is some compression to the holster material so it is around
.25 inches thick, if that overall.

I like the "grippiness" of the material and it certainly doesn't move and it can be canted since it is clipless and moved up and down slightly for the same reason. I have been wearing it at about a 3:30 position. With no T-Shirt on there is minor discomfort due the rubberized nature of the material. A little talcum might help with that. Maybe a different position.

It is true that once the handgun is out of the holster it is difficult to impossible to reholster. If I had to do that I think I would remove the holster, put it back in and perhaps put it in my pocket. Remora makes a unit with a stiff mouth that addresses that issue.

For me I don't know that the jury is still out so much on this holster as it is carrying IWB in general.

I also got a magazine holder made from the same material.

Pictures to follow.

I find the Remora to be decent in the pocket, but I wouldn't use it IWB. I actually got the Remora so I could pocket carry my XDm compact, and it worked - but was actually less comfortable than IWB carry. I tried using the Remora IWB but found that it tended to shift down a little bit during the day.

I also got Remora double mag pouch and single mag pouches, and I find that IWB the magazines tend to work their way out (I've had this issue with another mag holder IWB, and I will not carry a mag IWB in a holder that isn't kydex or leather). In the pocket, the Remora works okay, but I'm looking for a better option for IWB.

Just a quick update on the Remora and PM9. I've been toting it for a week now and I'll just list a few things that I've noticed.

Ability to stay in place: It does a good job, for the most part. The holster absolutely needs to have compression 100% of the time. So long as there is compression (between a waste band and your body) it wont move. What does this mean? well... it means I can't carry it IWB in a location that will occasionally lose that necessary compression. For example, I've found that I like to carry my clip IWB holsters right in front but the Remora can't be carried that way because the compression will vanish if I bend over. Conversely if I carry the Remora at the 7 o'clock "kidney" position, the holster will not move at all since all naturally movements from standing upright will actually increase compression. In that position it will not move all day and actually is the most comfortable holster I have (at least that's my current opinion).

Draw: As someone else mentioned, re-holstering is difficult if not impossible. Do I care? Not really... This is not the holster choice for running courses/classes. Also, reholstering is going to be at the bottom of my list of concerns in the event that I ever had to actually draw in a real situation. So I don't think it's all that big of a deal for any practical application. It's not a big problem to take the holster out and put the gun back once the threat is gone. That said, the draw is smooth and predictable. I've had no draw issues so long as the holster is being carried in a location with adequate compression. For this reason alone, it's important to give this holster appropriate learning time before it is actually "deployed."

Comfort: I think this a very comfortable holster, even against the skin. I hate anything itchy. This holster does NOT itch me. I can feel the tack of the holster against my skin but it does not bother me. This is a big plus for me.

Anyway... that is all for now. Will add more when I can.

Love it

I'm a little confused by the guys saying this thing is really thick. My Glock 29 seems to just disappear in the Remora Model 10. I particularly like it in jeans. My Comp-Tac Minotaur feels like a magazine stuffed in my pants compared to the Remora.

I don't think it is the end-all-be-all holster, but I think I'll be carrying my Glock in it about 90% of the time. I just got it so I'll let you know if my mind is changed. Should be a very nice complement to my TT gunleather "Mike's special."

I second the above. I don't think it's thick at all. It's padded... but once it's in place and the appropriate compression is applied, it doesn't feel thick at all to me. It's noticeably thinner than my leather holsters.

I think I'm going to post some images like above with the holster in place.

I just meant it feels a bit thick and not as pliable as I expected. I'd never return it. It is a very well constructed holster and it stays put as advertised. Some have stated re holstering can be difficult but I've never found it to be a problem. I'm going to start using it and see if it loosens up and gets more comfortable for me. I really want to like this holster

Since I have never carried IWB I don't have anything to compare the Remora with. I like the fact that it stays in place; I can adjust it up or down at least an inch or more and also put a cant in place prior to tightening my belt.
It works particularly well with a web belt that has infinite adjustability.
I ordered mine with a partial sweat shield.

I agree with the thickness issue, it's not an issue.
Look at these pictures, the quality is readily apparent.

Remora also makes magazine holders. I put this one in my pocket. 15 rounds of 9mm Plus P.

I'm keeping it. it will work fine for the Boberg both IWB, in a large pocket and it provides security if I want to put it in one of my Maxpedition Bag pockets.

Alan Bogdan of Remora has been very reponsive to my questions and assures complete satisfaction.

When I'm wrong I'll admit it. I have been using the Remora and it has become my favorite IWB. The no clip design allows infinite position adjustments for maximum comfort. My only regret is not getting the sweat shield, but I guess I know how to remedy that.:D

I received mine last weekend, so I have only been using it for a few days.

I'm female, dress casually for classes and business-casual for work, and am of average build with a little extra in the tummy, so that's what I have to work with when concealing. Obviously a lot different from most of you guys.

I bought a size 10 for my P229. My husband's commander-size 1911 fits in it as well, although I think a size smaller might fit better. My Makarov is too small but I have tried it out a few times.

It is pretty comfortable, doesn't tug at the skin like I thought it might. With jeans and a belt (and I don't wear mine baggy), it stays 100% in place. With dress pants & no belt, it stayed but I felt like it was going to slip. Loose cargo shorts, I wouldn't wear it that way.

It does sit farther down than my inexpensive Galco IWB holster, so that helps. Obviously the end of the grip on the 229 is much to wide to avoid printing, even at SOB. Anywhere around the hips is not an option. The 1911 tucks in tighter. The Makarov is small enough I can tuck the end of the grip just below my beltline, so that helps conceal immensely, although I am still looking at a loose shirt or cover garment.

I may get a smaller size for the Makarov (a little larger than a PPK), because it is pretty flexible. I like that it can be used ambidextrously, since I carry right handed at appendix but I turn it around for small of the back carry.

I might try to get some pix up later.

Overall, I would say this is a win, especially for $25.

I just got back from a beach vacation and guess what I brought with me... the Remora and PM9. I'll start with the final conclusion and then elaborate.

For it's intended purpose, this holster is excellent and I will be recommending it to all my friends. Shipped it was $30.06 and at that prices it makes good sense even if only as a backup holster or secondary holster.

What I like/love:

This holster can be worn in any manner that provides compression. Pick the spot on your waistline, pull your drawstring (or belt or whatever) and you are good to go.

The material is also fantastic. This holster did not bother my sensitive skin one bit... I is comfortable (actually comfortable, not just tolerable) against my skin all day. Feels MUCH better than leather against the skin... even when I sweat. I was walking around the beach with it in waist of my swim trunks (t-shirt over top) and it never moved or bothered me... I did have to draw my swim trunks tight thought.

The design of the holster keeps lint and other debris out of the gun if carried in a pocket or other "dirty" location. The "sticky" material also keeps the holster in the pocket on a draw.

I've been carrying it for about a month now and it is my favorite holster. I'm actually kind of frustrated with my conventional IWB holsters for my larger guns after carrying the Remora.

What I'm not crazy about:

I feel like this holster prints in a pocket. I might just be paranoid but I feel like it continues the lines of the gun and somehow exaggerates those lines through my pant fabric. I have one pair of shorts that can effectively pull it off... every other pair of pants, even cargo, print the package. Works fine in a jacket though... but if I'm wearing a jacket I'll be carrying a full size. I feel like a pocket holster should print in such a way that the object in your pocket looks like a fat wallet...

If I get another one for my larger guns, I will be getting the attached mag pouch modification done to it. Whether I use it for carrying an additional mag or not, I believe that having more sticky fabric surface area will help hold larger guns in place better. I didn't get it for the PM9 because I didn't want to impact the ability to keep it in a pocket... that wont be a concern for larger guns.

I purchased 2 of these holsters for my PPS and 340 M&P. I personally thought they were amazing. I hardly know I'm carrying and they don't move at all. These are the only holsters I will uses for IWB carry. I bought another for my P229 and found it fits my PPQ. I have many OWB holsters and love the smell and feel of leather. But you can't go wrong with the Remoras.

Phil W - So the Remora works well for the P229 and the PPQ? Does the PPQ keep tight to your body with the Remora? I was thinking about getting one for my P30, which is about the same size as the PPQ, but I want to know if it will keep the butt of the gun tight to my side. It works great with my PM9, but I wasn't sure how a larger pistol would carry. Do you find the PPQ moves around at all? Or does it offer the same degree of tight fit and security?
