Hello,

I just ordered my first single stage press (two acutally).
I wanted to know if anyone has any ideas on how to "mount" the presses onto my workbench w/o making it "permanent" (ie: w/o drilling more holes) and to make room for when I'm doing other gun work (cleaning, cerkoting, duracoating).

I also have a Lee zip trimmer and I'm expecting an RCBS Uniflow in the mail soon. So all these things I'd like to "mount" w/o having them in the way when I do other projects...

Thanks

Steve

Only thing i can think of is mount to a board and c clamp the board to the table. Is there any special reason you dont want holes in your work bench?. Cus some bolts with wingnuts will work fine and allow for quick removal.

That's what I did. I even used fairly thin plywood, probably only 1/2" or 5/8 or so but it's a monolithic system when clamped to my bench.
I mounted the press to the ply with furniture bolts.. they look about like this..

Good ideas, I was thinking about mounting all my presses and other devices to a long board and then clamp it down to the bench. But I was wondering if there were any more ideas.

I dont really care about making holes in my bench (its got plenty) but I just need workspace for other projects. Thats my main concern.

Thanks

If you don't have too much equipment to mount, the auxillary-top idea is very good. Mount everything just where you'll want it while you're loading, and then move it all away together when you're not using it.

If you end up with various different presses you could maybe mount them with wing-nuts so you could set up that board for whatever kind of loading you'll be doing before you clamp it to the bench each time.

If I have one I want to move around, I mount it to wood or steel plate and use C clamps to hold it where I want it.

When we were kids, mom didn't want us loading in the house so we used dads workbench. We just bolted the presses to 4x4 blocks of wood and clamped them in the bench vise. Very fast and very solid.

Look up RockDock. A guy on the Cast Boolits forum makes them.

Very slick. I bought one for my bench, and it works out pretty well for me. I mounted the Rock Dock in the center of the bench, and can mount anything I like there. To use the whole center, just remove whatever is in there, and away you go.

There is a thread on here somewhere with a guy that has all his stuff mounted in recessed AL extrusions that hold T bolts so he can slide his equipment on and off. I didn't have any luck searching for the photo but maybe someone remembers it and can find it easier than I can. pretty slick system.

When my wife and I got our first place together I didnt have room for a dedicated bench. A buddy of mine came over and we thought about it, then took a 2x10 about three feet long and mounted the press to it. We used bolts and countersunk the backside a little. Then we c-clamped it onto my kitchen table with nice big c clamps. This worked great for a few years until we bought a house with room for a dedicated bench.

I have mine mounted to a quick release device that uses a simply thumbscrew to secure everything.

I made this probably ten years ago with the intent of owning a progressive press too and havving them share the same mounting point......I haven't gotten THAT far yet

That was Rembrandt's set up - exquisite wood working and cabinets

There is also a way to make an under bench mount, like a reciever hitch for trucks, only using two square tubes instead of one for extra stability. When not in use slip the press and insert tubes out and the top remains clear.
I didn't have room for that because of drawers so I bought the X box aluminum extruded from McMaster Carr to make my mounts.T-bolts used to secure and slide the press in/out or left/right depending how you want to mount them.http://www.mcmaster.com/#t-slotted-framing/=j948zn
