I just don't know how to say it.. THe media is having a heyday.. I guess guns and religion are the two things the liberal media hates the most.. I think its a big shame and obstruction to our rights as American citizens that the government , by the whims of both anti-gun and anti-religion advocates have come to want to ban our freedom to inscribed biblical verses on a gun optic.

I hope the mods don't ban this post.. ANd I am not sure if anyone else has brought up this topic.. But I am sad, because to me this is a strike against gun rights, because now we are not allowed to have any association with religion if we are gun owners and to me this is just plain old obstruction of our constitutional rights.

I say we should fight this one as much as we can. They say they fear the moderate Iraqi muslim soldiers who are fighting Al Queda might get offended..Are they offended by the fact, that some of the weapons, funds and technology they have, came from the hands of CHristians and other non-MUslims? To me this is heresy.. I am sure if Muslims created a weapon with Quran verse on it, there would not be such an outcry like this..

I don't want to go into the topic of religion, as i know that is not allowed on high road, but I would like to hear if people think this ban poses a threat to our rights as gun owners, especially those who have religious affiliations.

Eh, I'm a pretty hard core Atheist and I don't have any problem with a private company writing whatever they want on a product. Government proselytizing or pushing a particular religion on it's citizens is something else, which is where some liberals get concerned since trijicon has a govt. contract. But there are far more significant first amendment issues to worry about than a motto on a riflescope (or a coin or dollar bill for that matter.) If I were a soldier in Iraq I'd care a lot more about the reliability and effectiveness of my equipment, than wether or not it bore some tiny inscription or other...if it saves my life it can have any dam thing written on it it wants.

I'm with Squinty on this one. Just to be clear, the weapons themselves do not carry the markings, it's the mounted ACOG scopes that do. I'm an Atheist as well, but I wouldn't have a problem with the markings if I owned one of the scopes. I would really like to hear the Iraqi and Muslims opinion and how their soldiers feel about it, instead of our news outlets telling us what we think.

I own a few motorcycle jackets, made by ICON, that have a St. Christopher medallion sewn into the inside left breast pocket. It doesn't bother me so I leave it there. Besides a little good mojo can't hurt right?

As a non-Christian, I have no problem with religious persecution. Any tool that works in war is a good tool. Frankly, I'd rather see bullets anointed in pig's blood along with the announcement that for every American soldier dead equals one mosque defiled and destroyed.

CNN

Trijicon has a $660 million contract for the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army, according to Turner. He said slightly more than 300,000 scopes have been delivered so far, with most going to the Marines.

After the initial news report, the Muslim Public Affairs Council called on Defense Secretary Robert Gates to withdraw from combat use weapons that have sights with the biblical references.

"Allowing religious references to be placed on U.S. weaponry, which are bought and paid for by U.S. taxpayers, is unacceptable," MPAC Executive Director Salam Al-Marayati wrote in a letter to Gates, according to the council's Web site.

"Such inscriptions not only run afoul of the Constitution and U.S. military rules, but they also feed into the violent extremists' narrative that the ongoing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are a 'crusade against Islam.' "

This from CNN feed. MPAC is now dictating to American military . :banghead:

So if religion is such a big deal, fork over every bill and coin that reads "In God we trust" and I'll be sure to spend it on guns, ammo and tithe at my local church.

Shall we remember what America was founded on? Religion. Case closed.

As a non bigot, you are a hateful bigot.

Hahahaha.... no.

And remember why "In God We Trust" is on everything - McCarthyism.

Ok so let's take our weapons back and leave the country. I wonder how that'll make them feel when the Lion leaves the Sheep to the Wolves.

Bullets don't care what god(s) you do, or don't, pray to.

Let's remember what Washington said, and take care of our own affairs, while the world takes care of their own. Let's not get involved in the problems of others.

Your lack of understanding of Islam is showing. They have no fear of pigs or pig products. It won't keep them out of heaven. At best, it might give them trichinosis.

This bothered me. I don't know if it is a poor statement due to a lack of understanding or poor paraphrasing, or if theMPAC really wants the weapons pulled. I could understand (but not agree with) the demand to pull the sights, but to pull the weapons? That is crazy.

Great example of a small misunderstanding getting blown out of proportion. How much you wanna bet some poor 2nd Lt. got tasked to check every piece of equipment for similar markings.

They probably think it's something like ARs with built-in carry handle style sights, or, more likely, just don't know better in general.

If it was on the scopes when they procured them, they need to get over it. They didn't have to select THAT manufacturer if it bothered them so much. I hope Trijicon says "no" to any changes, and "Praise the Lord!" (and pass the ammunition!)
