OK, I've got black deposits on the outside of my cylinder, right outside of each of the 5 chambers. They are in-between the "flutes", and only at the very front (towards muzzle) end of the cylinder. I first tried just using CLP, soft cotton brush, and a lot of elbow grease. That didn't work then I used the same method, but tried some bore cleaner for about 20 seconds with the same soft cotton brush, and right away wiped that off and put on more CLP. The bore cleaner helped just a little, and I quit with it because I didn't want to tear up the finish.

Does anybody else have problems like this? Is there anything I can do to remove it w/o screwing up the cylinder finish? I can live with it, they're fairly small spots, but I do like my guns clean. Anyways, its a 342PD if that makes any difference or not, but I have had a 340, and I remember being able to get it clean.

Try a gum eraser like you used to use when in school....or place a NYLON bore brush in a length of cleaning rod, place rod in a power drill and go after it with a little bore solvent.

I've been using Hoppe's #9 and a nylon brush for years. It works pretty well to get most of the worst fouling off. I nornally don't care about the last little bit and just leave it.

However... In just a last week I've started using a "Metal Care Cloth" from www.proshotproducts.com/page13.html It's sota like the Lead Wipe Away for Stainless guns, BUT the Metal Care Cloth is safe for blued guns.

I figured if it was okay for bluing, it might be okay for the clear coat alloy guns. So far so good, but I really don't know what the long term may bring.

Good Luck...

Joe
