I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THE REAR SIGHT SLIDE BLADE ON A S&W 629-1. LEFT PORTION OF THE BLADE IS BROKEN

i have done this on my 629 no dash, but its been a while, you just turn the windage screw out untill it breaks but there is a pin in the side of the screw head that will shoot out and be lost there is also a spring ,both of these are very small, i ordered mine from smith &wesson (the blade) it comes with the windage screw and the nut also instuctions if i ever do it again ill put the sight in a big clear bag while i work on it ,the little pin and spring will shoot out and its all but imposable to find! good luck*csa*:D

As stated just unscrew the windage screw until it shears the staking on the locknut.
Cover the sight with a piece of electrical tape and nothing will shoot out.

Brownells has a sight rebuilding kit available.
You won't need anything quite that comprehensive for one sight fix but you will need to replace and restake the locknut along with the broken sight blade.
