I have small stack-on gun lockers in each bedroom closet. Pulled a closet queen out of daughter's gun locker to check on its condition after a couple of year's storage and found this. The foam pad in the bottom of the locker has adhered to the rifle's rubber butt pad. Will Goo-gone or WD40 be safe to use on the rubber pad to get the foam off? Mechanical methods, peeling and friction aren't working.

Update: Checked the other small stack-ons and found the same problem in my blackpowder gun locker with the rubber pad on my 50x209 Encore.

Replace the open cell foam with inexpensive closed cell foam from a Wal-Mart blue sleeping pad.

Much less likely to melt, and does not hold moisture from humidity in the foam.

Goo gone, goof off, or a strong citrus cleaner like 3M used to make would work and be safe.

However, dont just pour it on the buttpad. Put it on a cotton rag and scrub. If you feel the rubber getting sticky, STOP!

I experimented on the Encore butt pad first. And while it took a some time, I did get 95% of it off. Tomorrow I'll work the Remington. Thanks!

I was going to ask if it was a Remington. Remington factory butt pads (i.e. 700 series) are notorious for disintegrating after several years....google "Remington recoil pad melt" Mine did it spontaneously on a wool surface within a few years of purchase. You can replace them with a better aftermarket pad; https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1006491737?pid=331106 or https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1005025472?pid=168994 I ordered the Remington replacement and it fit well, but currently is sold out at Midwayusa.

Yep. Factory Remington. That makes a great deal of sense. Thank you for the info!

Just did the Google. One of my two melted stocks is Remington, and the other is a Limbsaver on an Encore. And here I was blaming the foam pad.
