I can't unscrew the magazine tube from the receiver. Is there a trick to getting it off? I read in another thread that on some of them you can't remove the magazine tube, how can I tell if this is so?

On my 20" 590 I can see the threads on the end of the tube giong into the receiver, so I dont think its pressed in.

Brownells sells pliars specificly for this, but with a little bit of weatherstripping or duct tape around the jaws of some channelocks (to keep from scratching the finish) you could have pretty much the same thing for a lower price.

The curved jaws of some visegrips would probably work out better, but care must be taken to keep fron chrushing the tube.

I can see the threads too, so I was pretty sure it's detachable. I'll look for that wrench, thanks. :D

Mossberg tubes are usually glued in with Loc-Tite or a similar product.
Use a Propane, MAP Gas or oxy acel torch to heat the tube up uncomfortable hot.
Let it cool a bit and then try to break the tube free.

WARNING! ! WARNING! ! Danger, Will Robinson....

Heat the mag tube some via torch method if required, but DO NOT HEAT TO GLOWING RED. You will be replacing a mag tube and the innards if you do.

Never mind HOW I know, I just know.... :( :(

I said uncomfortable hot, not glowing red.
For the incredibly dense among us, Uncomfortable hot means you touch the warmed metal with your bare fingers and go, 'damn! that's hot!'

A strap wrench also works. But I was able to get mine off with my super human like hand/grip strength, you nancy-boy. :neener: (Just kidding with you there, Parallax.)

OK, OK....I'll tell you how I know....

Was trying to remove the mag tube on a Mossy 500 many years back that had gotten dunked in the drink. Saw there was some kind of goopy stuff in the mag tube threads, and couldn't get it loose....

Sooooo, I fired up the Mapp-Gas torch and had at....Long story short, when I tried to torque the tube loose, it just sort of bent a little. Ended up buying a new tube, follower, and spring.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :cuss: :banghead:

Onmilo is right....heat it up to the point of " :cuss: That's HOT!!!", NOT to the point of glowing cherry red. . . . Like I did.

I had a bit of touble getting the tube off my 500 too. I removed the barrel and got one of those big latex rubber things you use to open tight jars with. Wrap the rubber around the tube and basically step on the receiver to keep it from moving. Then twist (counterclockwise!) the tub until it loosen up.

Oh, and when I say step on the receiver, don't literally stand up and stand on it, lest you crush it. I just sat down and put my foot on top to keep it from moving while I twisted the tube. I didn't need to use heat or anything.
