I've got a CMP M1 Garand, and while I love the thing, I do have some difficulty using the rear aperture sight.

The problem is that I am very nearsighted and rely on high strength contact lenses, which can sometimes cause a mild halo effect. While my vision doesn't affect my ability to use the peep sights on my AR-15, Enfield, or M1 Carbine, I have a difficult time properly using the sights on my M1. The M1's rear aperture is so small that I will often lose the front sight unless I'm in full sun or using a bright target that contrasts with the front sight. I hate to degrade the accuracy potential of the M1 but does anyone make an rear sight aperture for an M1 Garand that is larger than standard?

I'd pick up a spare aperture, and then just drill it out a little, a bit at a time, until it's the right size for you.:)

thats what i would say too.

the only other reap peep ive seen is the national match, bit its not bigger, its smaller.

i know if i get a good cheekweld and snuggle up to the receiver heel i can see the whole front post, ears and all.

I have a National Match hooded rear aperture that I drilled out to .125" that works very well for most range use.

For serious target work, I reinstall the .052" aperture.
