The extractor on my Sig GSR 1911 has finally given up the ghost, and Sig CS told me it had too many rounds for them to fix it under warrantee. So I bought aftermarket parts (faster and less $ than from Sig). But the real problem is I can't seem to get the retaining/pivot pin out. Tried a pin punch and a hammer, doesn't seem to move. So do I just need a bigger hammer, or is there some trick?

Can't recall if it goes in from the top or the bottom, but it has a "head" on one end of the pin and will only drive out one way. With good light, see if you can tell which end is the larger diameter and drive out from the other end. EGW used to make the best aftermarket replacement extractor - not sure if they still make them.

For stubborn pins, I have a set of short "starter" punches that work much better on tight pins than the long punches in most sets. The long ones have too much spring in them. I have reground broken punches to make the starters. After the pin moves, switch to a longer punch to finish the job.
