I am going to call/email Fox about this, but I doubt they will really take it seriously. I do know what does getting taken seriously – direct complaints to the advertisers. As a small business owner, getting complaints from my advertizing is the last thing I want.

Lets get the names and contact information of the people supporting this particular news hour, the more Dallas local the better. I will drive if possible to register my displeasure.

I want someone higher than this reporter to roll for this.

With a full time job and a business on the side I need help getting the list of local advertizers, but here is what I have so far.

I'm not sure if this is the way we want to go about resolving this issue. Yes, she wronged Mr. Walton, and yes, there needs to be some discipline, but it's in our best interest that she genuinely apologize and understand the situation. Otherwise, she'll just end up at another station as the same old person.

Trying to inflict maximum damage over this is not THR, IMO, it's what we see from the antis all the time. She's already suspended, we should probably just work from there.

Nothing rude or disrespectful was said. I pointed out that her actions on the other hand were. This will impact where I choose to spend my money. My only demand was an open apology from FOX4 without strings. They don't have to fire her to do that. I've met a number of these professional reporters and quite frankly my opinion would not meet THR's guidelines for print.

I think I understand where people with this opinion are coming from, but I think it is misguided. First, I think there is little value in “rehabilitating” this reporter, because a) I think it’s a waste of time, and b) there are plenty more where she came from.

I don’t see this reporter as necessarily being a Brady-card carrying member out to get gun owners, so much as an aggressive reporter trying to move up the ranks. The same thing with Fox, it bleeds so it leads. I don’t think this was about some political agenda. In their world it’s all about ratings and getting as close to the line of what is acceptable as possible, without actually going over enough to get spanked hard.

If we don’t respond, who will? And if the fallout is minimal, they’ll be just as eager to push the line next time. In the corporate world, there is getting spanked hard, and there is getting away with it. I’m sorry, but corporations don’t have a soul and generally they don’t care about anything but actual consequences, good and bad.

Zumbo?

If they really REALLY like this reporter, she'll be back.
First, she says she was tired.
Then she'll apologise, and begin doing lots of pro-gun articles and interviews.
Then she'll be re-hired.

If she is nothing special to the news team, well... cnn or the washington post will probably hire her.

One word:

REHAB!!!

I think that Fletcher is trying to suggest that gun owners try to do something in their best interests, which is to try a strategy that can work instead of one that inevitably is self defeating and self destructive.

Rebecca Aguilar, the reporter, is a rising star. You absolutely cannot hurt her. Zumbo was not in her league. He had nowhere to move except down. Aguilar is moveable and is on the move. What you can accomplish with the traditional gun owners' tactics is make her and everyone who likes her additions to the gun owners' already long list of mortal enemies.

It's obvious that many gun owners don't care about making enemies and alienating other people, but not caring isn't what makes winners. Winning is great fun and it's much better than losing. It's also a habit: people who know how to win get in the habit of the thing and usually win more than they lose. As for hurting Fox or a Fox affiliate .... Come to your senses. The most you can do along that line is make temporary nuisances of yourselves at a cost of getting slapped forever after when you've stopped paying attention to this incident.

At the very least try to consider suggesting that Aguilar and Fox use this occasion to learn the need to be more sensitive to the situation of people like the elderly man who lives above his junkyard office and is trying to survive one invasion after another. The media belongs on his side, and the side of others like him, instead of siding with the people who try to harm him.

That kind of openmindedness is what we really want. Nobody here would condone the man's behavior if were trying to lure people into his junkyard so he could shoot them. We want a fair shake for him and for other gun owners.

It's useful to realize that the sweetness of revenge gives momentary satisfaction but the sweetness of winning is nourishing. Instead of perpetually telling people that you can't be satisfied and want destruction, try convincing them that your desires are reasonable and capable of being realized. Persuade them to want to help you instead of beating them up.
