Maybe not a coincidence we've had several "how many guns do you own?" threads lately.

One would have to ask himself "If the Feds are not interested in a gun and gun owner registry, why would they EVER want a gun dealer's forms?" There can be only one reason they demand that dealers surrender their records when they go out of business.

Maybe because they are afraid the paper will be put in with the regular trash, and just want to make sure it is recycled responsibly.

The photos of the Records Storage are fascinating in their way.
Mind, FFL have been going out of business for any number of reasons over the last half-century.
Fires and floods and tornadoes being among the ways those businesses were shuttered.

It's also good to note that BATFE only requires that the records be kept for twenty years, not how well kept. They often wind up in back rooms, basement storage spaces and the like, and are sent, when required, to BATFE in "as is" condition--moldy, mildewed, water damaged, damaged by insects and rodents, and all the other things that can plague paper records.

Mind, too, the handwriting in these volumes runs from bad to worse. Not exactly the best material to scan at all. And there are millions of these records, too, just in the Closed Business Storage area alone.
